Does on-ball defense seem harder this year?

I was pretty solid at defense in 2k16 with Intense D, and turboing to beat my man to the spot like real basketball. This year though I am getting absolutely torched off the hop when I play on-ball defense. Is it just me or did the defensive difficulty up this year? I don't have a huge issue with it, was just curious if my skills deteriorated in the span of a month haha. Any tips from some veterans?

Play the angle game. I think they toned down the bump control that help defense.

It works for both sides. If you use the angles you will see better results on off/def

Yeah, I got the same Feeling. I was thinking I was a good on-ball defender and then 2K17 happened...

I got crossed so many times. I try to train in the mode Bitume of MyTeam but I struggle a lot.

One thing I noticed immediately is that you cant 'hug' everyone like you could previously....you will get burned every time if you dont give space.

You can really trip guys up defensively if you cut them off..

I prefer the defense this year.
Last year was frustrating guarding guys.
This year i feel like all the results of my defense (for better or worse) are justified.

Re: Does on-ball defense seem harder this year?

I haven't gotten the chance to play the full game since I'm at like 49GB/54 but I did play the Prelude. Not sure if it was because of my guy's low defensive rating, but it seems like as a defender you're on ice and easily slide left and right, with high defense rating that could probably be a good thing for staying in front of your man but also detrimental in the sense you can be taken off the dribble easier.

Now during the TEAM USA 2KU tutorial, totally different story. But again, their ratings are completely unrealistic compared to what we'll probably be capped at.

If dribbling gets better and more responsive, guarding people will be harder...yes.
