    The Patch options!!!

Ok this is a subject that still haunts me since NBA 2k8 (2k8 death patch). Patches. Yes they are needed. But can we all agree now that sometimes when 2k patches the game, some of the things that we love about the game get lost. Some elements that we loved about the game gets completely tarnished after the patch is received. The problem I have, is not getting a patch, but, we should have a option to revert BACK to the original game pre patch setting if we choose to. Basically we should have a choice. Because lets face it at the end of the year we will be playing a whole new game. How dangerous is that? 2k is basically experimenting with us. We buy a game and then you change it. This is not the game we bought. First impressions are important (negan).

Patches all started with 2k because of online exploits, which I think started in 2008. But then us offline guys have to pay for it when they patch the online issue. OFFLINE people should have a choice. There should be a a patch option on the option list. And in the option list is should show all the patch updates that were made to this game.

    Re: The Patch options!!!

IMO the patches have removed elements which made the game less enjoyable. Sure there are some exploitable things that were "fun", but they were a selfish type of fun.

Honestly some things introduced at launch such as auto-hesis, forcefields, magnets and unresponsiveness is what kills the game for me. Patches have adjusted some of that, and removed things such as speed-boosting, and adjusted powerful badges like deadeye etc.

If you have the disk you can play off-line without updates.

Nah they just went out of their way to handicap players who knew what they were doing. Now we are getting more and more crutches for bad players.

Knew what they were doing, or being repetetive with exploits they found by viewing their favorite youtuber?

Bad players are being exposed as they can't zigzag and deadeye from good defenders.

Before back on PS2 i remember that not everyone could play 2K. I remember one time giving joypad to my 14yr old cousin for a quick game (12min) haha he scored like 30pts for whole game. Now you have 14yr olds at Park or online screaming and shouting when their ball bounces of rim while trying to dunk on 2 bigmen. #dumbdown and #make$$$

That's what you think this is? This game has been dumbed down FOR bad defenders.

You see what were doing. We are going back and forth about what was fixed and what was not fixed. To avoid all this, we should just have a menu option to go back to whatever gameplay changes we had before. We should have full control of this. This also confuses the customer. We are playing a NEW game every month. When we only paid for one game......

We should have a choice. Everyone seems to experience something different when the game gets patched. We should have a choice on what works for us. This should be mandatory

Has nothing to do with patches, it's been the momentum swings that have been intensified since 2k14. You know, when shaq would score threes and all that? This year it's pretty hard to score if you've got a defender in front of you or if you don't excell at a certain area.

If you think about it, a good way to efficiently score this year is by using screens, just like in the NBA. So do you think the NBA is dumbed down and is filled with garbage players for utilizing screens? Only problem is that it's a bit too effective, with illegal screens and all that. Only garbage I seen was speed-boosting and excessive dribble moves to shoot 3's. That's something you don't see in the NBA, that's what got patched.

I don't mind patches. But seems like there have been too many tweaks all around. Could be me playing poorly some times. The gameplay has felt altered differently each patch. Only big gameplay issue I had is that loose to dribble animation, then takes 5 seconds to gain control back. Great game though if they edit that and fix pro am.

I would love to have the option to revert back to a previous version of the game for offline use. I'd even take it a step further and wish we could select what we wanted to have patched. Like I want the game to play like it did "out of the box", but I want the court updates for Milwaukee and New York. I don't think the latter will have happen, but I'd like to see something like that.

                        Re: The Patch options!!!

Ah, patches. The double edged sword. It's not only relevant to the 2K series but pretty much all games nowadays. Some games relentlessly patch for a year + and at each turn break something new, etc. As much as I love Pillars of Eternity, the constant patching and tweaking to achieve ULTIMATE BALANCE was silly to me. The entire strategy guide of that game that came out before the release is nearly 100% inaccurate now!

I think at some point you just have to roll with the punches. Follow your vision for what the game is supposed to be. The era of community feedback is a double-edged sword. You have to stick to your vision of what you want the game to be and how you designed it. Design by committee is not really a great idea, IMO.

                          Re: The Patch options!!!

You can thank the plethora of online users who complain about everything for this happening to our game.

2k listens to the consumer almost to a fault. Guy sees one thing happen on the Pro-Am one time that he thinks is cheese, such as a guy actually making a jumper over their 95 overall lockdown defender (which happens in real life), and will relentlessly complain about it for weeks and weeks, eventually getting the masses on his side that it's a "big issue" that needs fixed. Just because a Mario Chalmers level player made a jumper with an Iguodala player in his face doesn't mean the game is broken. But that's what happens and what is perceived. 2k tries to fix that by making shot percentages with a shooter in your face go down, but then people complain that they can't make anything unless they're wide open, and we're back to where we started. It's a never ending cycle of complaints, one complaint/fix leading to another complaint/fix.

People want this game to be sim, but they also want to be able to completely dominate if their character online is leveled up really high. You can't have both. Steph Curry and LeBron James have bad games. People made jump shots in Michael Jordan's face. Shaq missed dunks.

I personally think they should have online and offline patches completely separate in terms of fixes. Similar to what Overwatch has done with PC/Console patches. There's a possibility that both platforms are balanced differently if needed because there are different strengths and weaknesses. Just like online and offline on 2k are balaced differently. Until they do that, however, we're going to be stuck with an OS message board in which every thread is hijacked by complaints because 2k is attempting to make everyone happy when that is an impossible task.

I disagree, actually. Players like myself want SIM, win lose or draw, period. Others may want to dominate with their MyPlayer or whatever, but many SIM players I've played just want to play a fun game of accurate NBA basketball. IMO.

Then you should be just as outraged at the vocal online majority who claim they want sim, but they also complain that their 95 overall misses wide open jumpshots sometimes or gets a jumpshot made in their face occasionally. "I'm a 95 overall lockdown defender! An 80 overall should never be able to make a shot when I'm guarding him!" Yes, I've seen that comment made.

This is our problem. You want sim. I want an offline game that isn't ruined by the online side, and others just want to make 100% of their shots and win every game by 20. 2k can't make everyone happy, but that's what's going on.

You making this comment actually made my point for me. You want something entirely different than a lot of people complaining on this message board. 2k can't cater to us all. They have to choose what THEY want to do with the game. Especially with Pro-am and MyPark, which is basically just arcade basketball dressed up as sim.
