What was the game play like before the patches ?

Im going to uninstall later and try it. I have always been very suspicious of gaming nostalgia.

I still see people saying 2K 5 or 7 or 11 are better than 16 or 17.

2K17 on Sept 16th was nirvana. A hoops gaming paradise, even with its flaws.

Butter smooth, responsive, you didn't have to "fight" your player to move around the court...

Wish I had a physical copy. I went digital, so I'm outta luck.

Couldn't you just play Prelude?

the interior defense in 2k11, fast breaks, as well as the controller responsiveness and maybe even passing was miles ahead of 2k17. i'm flabbergasted as to how fundamental things like these take a step back.

I actually feel like I'm not pushing enough on my controller. It's like my players are dragging anvils behind them. Yet, oddly I still feel like I'm on roller skates. Strange and positively horrible combination.

it's especially annoying when you have a clear lane ahead of you off of a double team, but you can't explode ahead because of it. your defender then gets that speed boost back and the play is over.

but hey, at least we have new alley-oop animations, right?

Even Prelude was different than the out of the box full game experience.


Everyone just needs to get the patches, the game is better in most areas now than it was then.

I didn't have to fight & pull my player around the court before the patches tho. Early on, the controls felt the closest to 1-to-1 I've ever experienced in a NBA 2K.

Now it feels like a more unpredictable version of the later stages of 2K16.
