Why can't I icon pass when inbounding?

always pick the inbounder. Then press RB again to just bring the icons up..but don't press anyone...once the play starts the icons will disappear, then just press RB again and the button of who you want to throw to. It's a bit tricky, but you have to do it in that order. It's not because the opponent has them up. This way the play runs and you pick who to throw to.

right bumper and pick inbounder..hit right bumper..play starts..icons disappear..hit right bumper again and hit y to pass to guy in the corner.

I get it now. Thanks guys. My issue must've been I was always controlling someone on the court. In future I'll make sure to select the inbounder, then when the play starts I'll get the icons up.

strange i never recognized that? my belief was i am able to select and Control a Player with the Icons before the inbounder picks up the Ball. After He Picked it up He will directly pass to the one selected with Icons but nontheless you will be able to use Icon pass.

Ditto. I need to check that out for myself. I know there have been times I couldn't pull up icons on an inbounds play, and I just threw it to the player that I was coincidentally controlling on the court.

This whole time I thought it was a glitch, and not an actual gameplay mechanic. It was never a big deal, because 95% of the time I passed it to Paul George.
