My idea: There are no archetypes, and get rid of the current attribute upgrade system as well.

Instead, give everyone X amount of attribute points to allocate to whatever individual category you would like. Hell, you can make it somewhat strict if you'd like, just let people actually make a custom unique player that fits their exact style.

For badges, simply allow users to pick say 4 or 5 badges to upgrade to a high level, and all others will cap at bronze/silver.

That's what I would like to see. I know some people enjoy the idea of the archetypes but I'm not sold. I dislike the idea of the current system. All of your options basically make your my player a glorified role player. It's a cookie cutter system, and there's little in the way of truly custom, or unique builds.

For some reason I don't think that 2k is going to change from the archetype system for 2k18; however I wish that they would consider it. I really think it's pretty lame that you can't even make a 3 and D type player with the current system. Hell for that matter, forget 3 and D. You can't even replicate players like Gordon Hayward, Khris Middleton, etc. and it's a shame.
With this system i think the minimum ratings requirements for badges should return, we don't want 60 3PT shooters with HOF/Gold Catch and Shoot/Limitless etc
Maybe have each badge level(bronze/silver/gold/HOF?) tied to ratings
The difficulty lies in trying to find a balance point between no restrictions and the current system, we don't want every big to have 80+ speed with ball, or having players with 90+ in all shooting ratings and defenisve ratings.
The question is how many attribute point should be available? I would say about 3,500, the best Sapphires in MyTeam have roughly that many attributes

If they put in the ability to destroy and reallocate our attributes on our dudes, they can really do whatever they want and I'll adjust.

The thing with this idea(from 2k's POV) is how does it get people to spend VC? They would probably have it so each time you destroy and reallocate your attributes it costs more VC

People would still spend VC because it still costs to put the attributes on your character. So destroying and reallocating would still cost VC to place the attributes on the player.

That's okay with me.

Going to the gym to re-earn my attributes and paying VC is way easier than starting from scratch.

Oh yes. Please make this happen 2k. Simple idea and I can already imagine how fun and easy it would be to build my preferred player.

Damn this could be great. But I'm afraid they will stick to the archetype system they made this year.

Re: Hopeful changes towards NBA 2k18 archetypes

While I understand everyone's frustration with the system, you cannot give complete control of stat caps without some sort of downfall in a game like this. We've seen that happen before and everyone jacked up ball handling and shooting and the game turned into people using behind the back dribble moves up court into a pull up jumpshot.

Although I get frustrated as a LDD that I can't hit a wide open three like... ever now.. I also know the Playmaker isn't going to bang constantly from three either which brings some dynamics back to the game.

If people had complete control over there players big men would once again be moved to solely rebounding machines because, why even take a two when sooner or later you'll have a 3 ball with a max shooter. No one is going to put points into shot close, layup, block (guards), etc etc... you will truly see people min/maxing to have max shooting, ball handling, the rest dumped into dunk and defense, because why layup if I can dunk, and why take a mid range shot if I'm deadly from three (people close out and they drive with a high dunk rating).

This is why I still say we leave the archetype but change the badge system.

If I'm a LDD and I'm given three HoF badges (Defensive Stopper, Pick Pocket, and Chase Down Artist) then I get to select 3 Gold badges of my choosing. Do I go with more defense (I'm Protector, Charge Card Etc) or do I get Catch and shoot, Corner Specialist, and deep range dead eye? Then add in 3 badges you can pick to upgrade to silver, and the rest to bronze.

This will create people who want a Sharpshooter, but also have gold ankle breaker, but they don't have a 94 ball handling, so it might activate some times, but it's not going to give them an overpowered dribble move.

This is last going to allow the uniqueness of people choosing to go more offensive or more defensive, more inside or more outside.

As a LDD I feel like I would have some hard choice to make. If I'm given attribute point allocation it's not hard at all.

Also wish my badge system 1 badge per play style wouldn't be eligible for upgrade i.e. Ankle Breaker, Limitless Range, Difficult Shots, Drop Stepper, Bruiser etc etc

This way your player still feels unique as a Sharpshooter with limitless range, and your LDD doesn't feel underpowered when everyone grabs golf defensive stopper.

Just my 2 cents

Also it's been 2 years or more since I've been saying this but the court is too small compared to player models. Just look at the video and watch the spacing, I guess it's because it was done before 2k15's engine.
Is that a PC version or something?
