How much does the vertical attribute actually matter?

Blake Griffin and Steph Curry both have the same max vert (35.5 inches):
    Blake's Vertical Attribute - 90
    Steph's Vertical Attribute - 73

Hasheem Thabeet has the same vertical as Jrue Holiday and Tyreke Evans (34.0 inches):
Jrue and Tyrekes Vertical Attribute - 68
    Hasheem's Vertical Attribute - 30

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson has the same vertical as Terry Rozier (38.0 inches):
    Rondae's Vertical Attribute - 93
    Terry's Verticals Attribute - 81

Who's the one deciding this stuff? None of it adds up. Does this attribute even matter?

yea, whenever I do sliders, like if I wanted to play offline, I'd turn the vert way down to about 15 or below. That makes the game play better, to me. People rebound differently and everything.

Same, I can't stand watching the hitch in animation that makes guys glide more in the air for put-backs or grab rebounds where naturally they couldn't reach and for that reason I always drop rebounding sliders and vertical sliders to zero; It hasn't created wonky gameplay for me except for the odd long rebound which is awesome.

It's a good question though VA, this game is so deep [thank goodness] that a lot of defensive settings, attributes, and sliders could use some explanations on how they work. I remember back in the day the packet in the disc case you would receive would have a ton of gameplay information, I think we need something like that, a place in the settings to troubleshoot things. I love that the Devs have given us tons of editing tools but we need to know how things were designed to work so we can maximize our editing/gameplay experience instead of different slider makers thinking they cracked a great simulation balance based on how they perceive certain sliders to work.

I think it really only affects rebounding. I have a created player with maxed athleticism and maxed dunking and HOF poster and I still get animations over shorter, poorer defenders where I'd throw the ball off the back board and miss the dunk. While My MyCareer player the same amount and type of posters with a 75 vert.
        ... But hey VC sale!!

In Park, players with elite athleticism rebound very well - it's very noticeable in their leaping ability how well they reach the ball at the apex of the launch into the air.

This is especially true for Lockdown Defender builds.

I don't know how they come to those attribute numbers though for the roster players - that's a good question regarding the discrepancies.
