An idea to make Archetypes feel unique (2k18)

So this is just a thought here but like everyone knows pretty much all archetypes play the same. You have a slasher, you can play off them a bit, and if you have a glass cleaner he's going to grab pretty much all the boards. I think I have a fix, which provides solid variety, but doesn't overpower any specific build.

Badge variation.

So my idea is that each Archetype has three fixed HOF badges I.E. Lockdowns have Defensive stopper, Pick Pocket, and Chase down artist. One of these badges is identified as the "Identity badge" in this case it would be Defensive Stopper.

Now where it differs is you get 3 badges of your choice to upgrade to gold, and 3 to silver. You cannot upgrade an Identity badge to gold from another archetype though.

While people believe they know what everyone would upgrade there would be a lot of choices to make. This would create a variation of play styles, without have to do this whole "dual archetype" system which will lead to a lot of people making playmaker/Sharpshooter builds.

I play a LDD and when I think about what 3 badges I'd pick to upgrade to gold I would do Fade Ace (bring back), Rim Protector, and Bruiser.

The difference here is I know other LDD would pick stuff like catch and shoot, corner specialist, etc as they want to make a 3 and D type player. You would also get players that would make the decision to get stuff like Post Spin Technician or other various badges that fit their play style, or what helps their teams.

Overall I can see this helping with making us feel like we're unique but not overpowered, and also not making it feel like everyone gets your best badge.

The reason I say you can't use an identity badge, is well, everyone would get defensive stopper on gold, or all big would have hustle rebounder.

Now as a playmaker, do go with more of a shooting badge archetype and take corner specialist, Catch and shoot, and deep range deadeye or do you grab pick pocket, acrobat, and a shooting badge.

I really feel like this system could work and make the game fun by making your own selections, while not making one build completely overpowered at the same time.

So for your identity badges (all HOF from what you said), you can only pick 1 out of 3 to be identified as? Or you have all 3 activated at once? Can you switch between those identity badges before playing a game? Or are you stuck with choosing 1 and only for for that archetype?

So the Identity badge would be designated for all archetypes. Ie you make a playmaker and it's Dimer, Slasher Posterizer, shot creator difficult shots, Sharpshooter limitless range, LDD defensive stopper, post scorer drop stepper, GC Hustle Rebounder, paint Protector Defensive stopper. - this is something designated by 2k not by you and would be the same for everyone, every game.

Now those single badges cannot be upgraded to gold by anyone else other than that Archetype since it gives them "what they are" as an Archetype. You don't want to be a Sharpshooter and see a playmaker with further range than you, or a GC and you're best badge is negated and you have a Paint Protector getting those 50/50 boards over you.

So as a Playmaker let's say, you could upgrade your mid range deadeye, One man Fast Break, and Tireless scorer all to gold and play more like Russell Westbrook; but doing this will cause you to not upgrade other badges like Deep Range Deadeye, Catch and Shoot, and Corner Specialist that would be more fit for someone trying to play like Curry. Also, you wouldn't have any defensive badges upgraded, and two current HOF badges like maybe flashy passer and something else you wouldn't have upgraded either, which means you wouldn't play like that old school Jason Williams PG either. This would then make you more unique on the court.
