There needs to be an extra option for Nickname: NONE

That's not very catchy though.

But honestly they have to do something better about the names. Even when picking names that exist in-game already, they still fall back onto the nick name.

If my last name is something as common as Anderson on my CAP then I should never be called the nickname. Same with rookies I made like Ball & Fox. Alternatively they could go with a pronunciation system. I don't remember what game it was, I think it was actually an old wrestling game, where you could choose a name you wanted but then choose in-game words that it'd be spoken as phonetically.

eg: If you made Markelle Fultz. You'd select "Markel" as his first name pronunciation from Markel Brown.

Then let's say someone name Faults was already in the league, you would use that guys last name for pronunciation. I wouldn't mind stretching something like this, using names that just kinda rhyme or using something like Alonzo for Lonzo.

I also think it would help if they went over the following top rated prospects for the following year's draft and added those names to the database.

That's pushing into that whole NCAA mess. I don't think that'll ever happen and even if it could it would have to be after the players have declared and signed agents before their liknesses could be in game. Even if just names.

No names would only be a licensing issue if NBA 2K associated a name with a likeness or perceived likeness but a name in a database would not be an issue especially since the first and last names are separated within the database. A name not being commonly known doesn't make it licensed. The current consensus # pick in next year's draft Michael Porter name can be used from the database. It could possibly be an issue if it were a nickname that was associated with a certain player and that would be stretch. A player or the NCAA would have to prove that there is only one person world wide with an individual first or last name. Now if 2K (Not an individual user) were to generate a draft class in game and it created a college player named Michael Porter then that could become a licensing issue.
