Well, maybe it has changed over the last few years because from my understanding, back in the 6th console gen era, the union held all their members to that arrangement. Not sure why they would create a union for the purpose of licensing agreements (what other purpose would it serve?), but allow members to "opt out." That completely negates the purpose of joining a union (solidarity and strength/leverage in numbers) in the first place.

We've had classic players since the PS1 or PS2 days, so the retired players association has been in agreements with these companies (EA & Take2/Sega) for years, but possibly the language in the contract(s) has changed with an "opt out" clause attached.

I keep saying the fix for all this is to make them DLCs. I'd pay a couple bucks for some classic teams

Well Anthony Mason died... so Im sure they cant just use his likeness in the game without his familys permission

or just have a classic players pool so we can make the teams ourselves if 2k can get the rights to everyone needed.

They could just throw in all team logos from every year so we can apply it to a team as well. Coaches aren't necessary.

I'm aware that he passed and his estate probably needs to be contacted or some other issues (still dividing up his assets/no beneficiary still named) involved.

Once the legal matters are cleared up, with him, Moses Malone and others, hopefully they can be reintroduced to the series.
