Classic players that can be included!!

What's odd is that many of the missing players are in the NBA Retired Players Association already. According to Ronnie2K that's the criteria to get in otherwise the players need to sign exclusive with 2K.

Here's the list of guys in the NBARPA that should be in game:

I took this quote from another thread, so we really need an explanation here. Is this true? Are these the players in the RPA? If so, why are players who are in there missing from the game? There's Luther Head who is missing from 07-08 Rockets and Bryon Russel on the 97-98 Jazz for example. Not just on actual historic teams, but also the All-Time team with a legend like Andrew Toney for the 76ers.

What is going on here 2K??? They should give us a legend pool with all the guys they have rights to so we can add them to All-Time teams ourselves then if they make decisions like this..

Re: Classic players that can be included!!

My guess is 2k taking their time and adding alittle bit here and there in each installment to squeeze out as much money as possible from it. Otherwise if they just throw everyone in there'd be nothing to look forward to in future games.

Well it's been 6 years since 2k12, so I doubt they'd purposefully leave Russell out only to add him after 10 years lol..with regard to legends on All-Time teams, they clearly ran out of players to add with some teams, but who knows, it would be a good strategy.

Interesting, Thurl Bailey is a name I've seen mentioned in the all time thread. He is in the NBA RPA according to that link, surely he's a better option instead of Ostertag

Gerald Wallace is also there, surely he makes the Bobcats team

2k probably still has to get permission which could be why. Some either don't answer the phone or just flat out says no thinking they'd have to come in to get scanned.

You know how some people don't even hear you out right? this might be the case with many of them.

That isn't how these player unions usually work. Maybe the retired one is slightly different, but usually if a player doesn't want to be included in merchandise or licensing agreement through a PA, they need to remove themselves completely (ie Michael Jordan, Barry Bonds, etc.).

Jerry West famously removed himself from the very union once because of the NBA Ballers game.

It looks likes Marques Johnson and some other "missing" players can be added since they are in the retired players union. Seems as though the teams were just hastily thrown together with whatever cyberfaces 2K already had rendered. Bad move on 2K's part.....

Some "missing" players in the retired union:

Marques Johnson
Anthony Mason
Luther Head

Re: Classic players that can be included!!

Bryon Russell was in 2k12 and then never again. Obviously that's intentional on his part, so players can opt out whether they're in the union or not.

Also, is that list even current? There are several deceased players on it. Can you be dead and still be in a union? I'm guessing not.

Marques Johnson can go **** himself btw. He was all gung ho about being in 2K but clearly all he saw was dollar signs.

I wouldn't really make that assumption given all the legal lingo with stuff like this.

BTW, this retired players association seems really non binding just reading up on it. It just reads as a group of retired players who are sticking together to support each other but there isn't any real ties to the RPA honestly. I think this is probably the reason guys are missing or have gone missing by trying to leverage their likeness exclusively. Their families probably do it too in deceased player cases.
