Why are the arenas all darkened?

Does anyone know why it seems like all of the arenas are darkened? It's harder to make out how the arenas look in comparison to the real life ones. In real life they aren't that dark as you can still see the arena and fans.

check out the 76ers' Wells Fargo Center, the whole lighting is so depressing.

I wonder if they did it to prevent framerates issues with the graphics?

I think it is indeed related to framerate and graphics. It may make the game run smoother.
I'd rather have arenas with correct lightning.
I have come to the conclusion that there are so many issues with 2K in current gen that it made me willing to buy only NBA 2K17 up to this date. And I don't intend to buy 2k18.
By the way, I regret buying 2k17. Horrible gameplay.
