Offensive Rebounds count wrong?
Or am I having a brain fart here? I added up the offensive rebounds total but its more than all of the OREB's from each player on my team...same for the CPU is the counter just wrong? Or is there another scenario where something would count as an "offensive rebound?"Tags: None -

There are such things as team rebounds in basketball that aren't assigned to individual players. Such situations are like if a rebound went out of bounds. Also if a player misses their first of two free throws, the team of the player who is shooting the free throws gets a team offensive rebound. These kinds of stats are important for bookkeeping.NBA 2K18 ratings for several seasons generated from advanced analytics using the SportsCrunch system:

So when we see high numbers of defensive rebounds at the end of game team comparison screen, that's basically just those extra team rebounds adding up to the final tally? I know 2K also records blocked shots that change possession as a defensive rebound too. There are such things as team rebounds in basketball that aren't assigned to individual players. I presume so.
As they should, or if any player on the shooter's team retrieves, then they would get an offensive rebound. Or, if a blocked shot sails out of bounds, that's a team rebound for the offense. Basically, any block needs to have a rebound attached to it, unless the game clock expires before either team can re-gain possession of the ball.NBA 2K18 ratings for several seasons generated from advanced analytics using the SportsCrunch system:

I always figured this was the reason rebounding totals were always too high in the team comparison screen. Hopefully 2K can add a category at the bottom for team rebounds to separate the two stats.Comment

Is this also the reason simulated stats in MyLeague always have a high number of rebounds? I don't get why that would also be the case in a simulation, unless they really just didn't want to differentiate team rebounds from regular rebounds.Comment
