Player Overalls: How do you feel about them this year?
How do you guys feel about player overalls this year? Do you think they’re generally too high, too low? Not big enough of a gap between the bad and elite players or too big of a gap? Not enough players in the 80s? Too much players in the 80s?

Re: Player Overalls: How do you feel about them this year?
They're too high, but for the rest of eternity I can see them never being lower again. Mainly due to 2k's heavy involvement with NBA player's and the backlash of guys who already think their rating is too low. -
Re: Player Overalls: How do you feel about them this year?
Player overall have always been a joke with NBA2k. Had hope when some of the guys from this site got hired that would improve, but it hasnt. As I said in another thread, there needs to be more of a gap, you have a 25-99 ratings scale use it, not that I think any players should be 40 or even below that, but more fo the scale needs used than having almost every player between 70-99. I could see using 50-99.
IMO it should be a HOF scale, and its clearly not, even if they say it is, its that or they clearly dont know much about the NBA, and I dont think thats the case.
I actually think the reason they overrate most of the players, is because they want to be buddies with them, and they are star struck, even with them overrating players, some players get upset still with there rating, even htough they are overrated, lol.
Then what really makes ratings bad, is once the season starts, your little kiddies online see a player no matter how good or bad that player is, if that player has a short stretch of good games, they start crying this player needs his rating boosted, and they end up raising the already overrated player higher
And if that player is on a popular team, once he comes back down to earth, they dont lower that player back down to his already overrated rating.
Another thing I mentioned is defense ratings adjusting dont have anywhere near the negative impact that offensive ratings adjustments. Take for instance Harden, who has no real desire to play D, a yr or 2 ago, I lowered his defensive attributes way down, like 20-25 pts down, and it didnt lower his overall all that much, like you would have thought.
Now Im not saying they need to have the same impact between adjustments of offense and Defense attributes, offense should make more of a impact, whether it positive or negative, but I tend to think the gap is between the 2 is a little too much than it probably should.
These are just some of my thoughts, I dont know how gameplay would be affected as well as maybe sim stats be affected if you actually used a true HOF scale, and had more guys in the 70 and below range. Although there sim stats have not been accurate for a long time, although I do think the last couple years thats actually improved, so who knows sim stats might actually be better if you used a wider gap. But I wonder if it might not effect gameplay negatively, as Ive never did a major rerate, even though Ive thought about it, as I didnt want to put all tha time in, only to find out I broke the gameplay, lol. I do know Czar, did say something about messing with I think tendencies too much, can have a negative impact on gameplay. So I dont know if the same could happen with major attributes edits.
Ive been considering doing a full rerate and using more of the scale before I start MyLeague, as I usually rerate as I got in MyLeague. Just not sure if I want to put in that much time it would take to do it.
JMO, but to me 90+ should be greatness, and IMO, I dont care how great someone offensive stats are, if you dont put forth much effort on both ends of the court, your not in rarified air. Right not there isnt too many 90+ overalls, but you can bet once the season starts and they start bumping guys up, there will be all kinds of 90's and high 80's ratingsEveryone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11

Re: Player Overalls: How do you feel about them this year?
I seriously just global edit all Intangible ratings down to 25. Brings overalls down to a much more realistic level.
Intangible actually has no effect on gameplay and has proven to be just a way for 2K to bump up overalls for playersComment

What are the overalls of the LeBrons and Durants of the world when you drop their Intangibles?End Game Lineup: http://2kmtcentral.com/17/lineups/10...ine-end-lineup

Re: Player Overalls: How do you feel about them this year?
too high and not enough of a gap between players. I too would like a HOF scale where LeBron, Wilt, Jordan, etc. are 99 and it goes down from there.
The problem with putting intangibles at 25 is it impacts contract negotiations (for myleague/mygm) and trade value. Many (including me) believe it's sole purpose is to massage overalls to better value some players in contracts and trades.Comment

Just checking with the community. Making a lot of draft classes this year and wanted to get an idea of how you guys like to see players ratings.
If you were to look at the current NBA players, which ones would you rate in the 90s?Comment

I really hate the "Overall" rating. All I care about is whether or not the individual ratings are right.Comment

Re: Player Overalls: How do you feel about them this year?
Too high, 2K is playing favorites.
That is why I resort to sliders and modify the Attribute sliders across the board just to stretch it out a bit. Separate the Stephen Curry's from the Andre Roberson's.Comment

I thought some guys were using this tactic to try to help distribute contract values more evenly throughout a roster, so that some guys actually have mid range contracts for non star starters and role players.Comment

I too would like a true HOF scale, but we will never see that with this game, because these gys at NBA2k are too star struck, and worry about upsetting players. If some of these clowns in the league actually got the rating they deserve, they would probably try to stop them from using their likeness
I seen a post by Dczar, that said something about being careful not to drop a rating to much, or it would impact something negative, I just cant remember where I saw him say that, or if it was a attribute or a tendency rating. So might want to be careful lowering a rating all the way down for every player.
There definitely needs to be bigger gaps between players in overalls. I really thought, when they started adding badges, this would really improve the game and overalls, to where you would see wider overall gaps, yet that player may be rated a 54 overall, but he would perform like his real life self. Basically a player, who i dimensional, like a player you bring who can shoot, but is poor at everything else, or that great defender like say a Tony Allen, who is a major liability for you on offense, but you can cant on him to lockdown a player.
What was a great idea, ended up being so miss used, along with over inflated overalls, that to have a realistic Association, you need to rerate the whole darn League.
Im glad NBA2k allows us to edit ratings and and such, because atleast we can make the adjustments needed, unlike the Live, so I am greatful for that, but I do wish they would they would accurately rate players, and not worry about what a player might say about it. I think Social media is probably the culprit to why ratings have gotten worse and not better, as you thought they may once they hired some guys from this siteEveryone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11

Re: Player Overalls: How do you feel about them this year?
Like most things in this game, they won't explain to us what Intangibles actually do. So in spite of the speculation of the effects changing those ratings could have on contract negotiations, player salaries, and whatever other random nonsense that rating could account for, I decided to put Intangibles at 50 for every current NBA player.
This achieves two things...first, player overalls are suppressed a bit, which is mainly cosmetic but still seems more realistic than the overalls the base roster. Second, it shows a player's "true" rating when compared to everyone else in the league. By leveling out the Intangibles rating, you get a better idea of their "raw" rating without manipulation. Here's what that leaves you with:
-7 Players rated 90 or above (LBJ, Kawhi, Durant, Wesbtrook, Harden, Curry & Anthony Davis)
-Only 4 at 91 or above
-LBJ, Kawhi and Durant lead the way at 93 overall
-Many more players end up with ratings in the high 60s and low 70s
I'm happy with my decision to make the edit, especially since I've seen others talking about how contract negotiations and salaries aren't exactly a strength of MyLeague. If this affects that, so be it. Having all Intangibles at 50 creates a very nice dividing line in my eyes. Everyone 90 or above is a superstar. Everyone below that isn't on that superstar level just yet (Giannis, KAT, Wall, and Paul George are all 87-89 OVR). The lone exception is Chris Paul, who sits at 89 OVR but to me is on that superstar tier as he's the best point guard of this generation and an elite player at both ends of the floor.End Game Lineup: http://2kmtcentral.com/17/lineups/10...ine-end-lineup
