 Boy do I have some ideas, haha.

I play classic teams as an added team to a custom league, with the all the generic players replaced by some average to subpar free agents to fill out the remaining spots (I try to keep them 73 overall max). I also try to keep 3 of each position on each roster, depending on what I have to start with.

Another thing I enjoy is pulling a few (3 or 4) players from all time and classic teams, and filling out the remaining spots with free agents. To keep things interesting, I may do some random players with some MyTeam ratings, either from 2k18 or 2k17. One team I have has prime Grant Hill from Detroit (93 I think), prime Antonio McDyess from Denver (88?), and a MyTeam version of Jerry Stackhouse from Philly (84). Then I added FA Sullinger, FA Brandon Jennings, Derrick Williams and a few others, and they are pretty fun to play with.

I tried to make an alternate version of the 01-02 T-Wolves too. I got rid of Cassell and Sprewell from the 03-04 squad, added Terrell Brandon as the point, and I edited Chauncy Billups to the 79 overall MyTeam version, and added in some free agents to fill the rest out. They aren’t very good, so that adds some realism.

Too bad they removed the Euroleague, I used them all the time for extra players! I even had a team featuring nothing but the best players from Europe, just to see how they’d fare in the NBA. Hopefully they bring it back. Not holding my breath though.

I have been really into the "start in offseason" option for MyLeague.

Getting to re-do the draft lottery, draft, and free agency allows me to completely overhaul a roster before I start a season. It's nice to be able to mold a roster the way I want without having to play through a season first.

If anyone wants any tips on how to maximize your draft assets or work around cap difficulties, I'd be happy to share.

I always remove badges before I start ML. I am not a fan of them at all. I also lower the potential of draft classes, so they are two points above there overall. It stops the player progression problem, and lets them progress in a realistic manner. I use 30 team control. Not to micro manage, per say, but keep it realistic. I also monitor the nba draft and make sure the teams draft realistically and make realistic roster signings, cuts, etc..etc. I let the ai do trades, but i play commish on unrealistic bad trades.

I've been using Simcast Live in my main play-through, because I wanted to take an off-court role but the auto-sim is too erratic. I'd describe it as 2D coach mode with a fast forward option.

Make sure the User and CPU sliders are identical for best results; I found that if I just left it on Hall of Fame, I could not win a game, even with the Warriors. Despite a restart after correcting this, managing the Kings remains a struggle at 14-42. I blame it on me keeping D-rated Joerger around for 47 games. To be fair, a stealth tank is exactly what I wanted to do in season 1.

I've got some slider tweaking to do in season 2 as my current all-star/superstar blend has led to FG% being too low and not enough turnovers.

I never used simcast live. is it like coach mode? do you use special ai vs ai sliders?

It's a top-down perspective but otherwise seems to function the exact same way a coach mode would, from the basic level of substitutions to the deep level of calling individual sets.

My current sliders are an exact 50/50 hybrid of All-Star and Superstar (with the latter difficulty used for ACE), but as previously mentioned I need to make significant adjustments as the stats have been a fair ways off. My team shoots 38% from the field and the opposition 42%.

I tried playing a few different ways, but kept finding myself getting bored or making a move that I ended up regretting or feeling like I cheated the CPU.

So, now I'm doing 30 (or 32) team control, simmed the first season, added two expansion teams, then went through the expansion process/expansion draft. Ended up controlling both teams expansion drafts to try to keep it as realistic as possible (Both teams took some bad contracts in exchange for draft picks). Then, I took one of those teams as the team that I want to play with, did the NBA draft, went through FA with the rule that neither expansion team could sign anyone above 80, and now I'm a few games into 2018-2019. Fairly entertained so far.

I'm a noob to 2k so take this with a grain of salt maybe but I started MyL in offense and expanded adding the Cincinnati Royals & Sonics. After two seasons I made drastic changes to player progression and regression based on recommendations from people testing on here.

I've challenged myself to keep within about $10m of the salary cap, trying to never have to pay luxury tax.
A: it is very tough to do so and fill the roster with good players
B: I think it is realistic when playing with a team in a small market like Cincinnati.

Honestly I may scrap that rule for the coming season because I want a F***ing championship!

How does 2K progression work? I've dabbled in MyGM but couldn't figure out what training actually did to my players.

I'm using MJWizard's 1997-1998 rosters and the draft classes available from JustinCollins, EZMadden and others to re-run the last 20 years. You can find these and many other mods that will give you a chance to run a unique MyLeague in the roster sub-forum.

I started with the Celtics and so my first challenge is to do better than Rick Pitino did there in real life. That's not too hard, but unfortunately for me the rosters are from the end of season, so no chance to build around a rookie Chauncey Billups. I finished 10th in the East in 98. Thankfully for the Celtics, the contracts are not accurate, and the first offseason offered a chance to rebuild quickly through free agency. Between a couple of trades and an aggressive stance in FA, I am a quarter of the way into 98-99 with:

PG- Stephon Marbury (87)
SG- Doug Christie (81)
SF- John Wallace (81)
PF- Shawn Kemp (87)
C- Adonal Foyle (77)
6th- Christian Laettner (80)

I'm 11-9 so far and the team feels like it is starting to gel. Marbury-Kemp are an extremely fun duo to play with.

There's a lot of ways to run a MyLeague but I'm really enjoying this one so far. I think watching the league evolve (i.e. team branding changes) and having real players enter (cannot wait till 03 draft) will be enough to keep me engaged with this one for awhile. To get through at a reasonable pace, I have been playing one game per in game month against a similarly rated opponent, so 6 games in the regular season. In the playoffs, I'm going to play Gm 7 in the first round, Gms 5-7 in the 2nd, Gms 3 and on in Conference Finals, and the entirety of the NBA Finals.

That is the link to the thread in the rosters forum which gives you the usernames to search for when importing. It looks like they have at least done preliminary work on everything from '98 to '17. I can't speak for anything past the '98 and '99 classes, as that's all I've reviewed/imported into MyLeague so far, but they are both well done with 30+ real players each, many of whom use the correct cyberface and are rated properly per their rookie season.
