Can anyone explain how hot zones work for myplayer?

Can you earn them by shooting well? Does it matter which mode? Do they go away if you shoot badly? Or is purely a product of handedness, build and ratings? Do they actually have any effect, or are they just telling you you've shot well from that spot.

Looking around online it seems there's a lot of contradictory information and I feel like perhaps they have no actual gameplay effect but just report your success in shooting.

You gotta shoot above 50% on like 75+ shots in my career for the inside ones I think it's 45% for long mid-range and 40% for the 3 point ones. You can only get them in Mycareer NBA games and they reset after each season... Not sure how bad you have to shoot for cold zones

It takes 75 shots in one area to be eligible for a hot spot.

Hotspots ~65% at the rim(60 for just outside Shaq range), ~50% midrange, ~45% Corners, 40% above the break

Conversely for cold spots 40% at the rim(35 for just outside Shaq range), ~30% midrange, ~25% Corners, ~20% above the break 3pt

Resets every season as well so remember when deep in the playoffs/regular season. I've heard rumors that it helps with contested shots more.

Save your time and energy. Hot Spots don't make a drastic difference this year. Not to mention they don't carry over into the next season. 2k made it entirely too hard to get hot spots this year. If you prefer having them just play a few games at the start of the season and sim to end. My whole court is covered by doing so.
