Re: NBA 2K19 Screenshot - Blake Griffin (Overall Rating - 86)
His face looks great, the rest of his body/jersey looks a little too smooth. Lacks texture and looks a bit washed. I kinda expected 2K to fine tune some things like that considering there wasn’t any sort of graphics overhaul.

STRENGTHS
The best ball-handling PF in the NBA. More comfortable running his own pick and roll rather than finishing it (quite the career turnaround). Tripled his 3PT output. Still a phenomenal athlete.
WEAKNESSES
Doesn't possess the dominant athleticism of his younger years and it shows... poor mid-range game, he'll never be LaMarcus Aldridge. Not a shot blocker and doesn't play the passing lanes like he used to... 2018 was a transitional year that will aid his long-term outlook - his days as an athletic Superstar are over.
NOTES
He rates 86 at SF. The PF formula sucks.

Hopefully this is still an early build as the arm sleeve still doesn't have the Nike logo either.Comment

Don't hold your breath. The arm sleeves are always plain. Dwight Howard never had the Adidas sign on his sleeves.Comment

Considering every accessory now has the Nike logo on it, and pretty much every player wears some sort of accessory nowadays, it'd be a nice little detail to add. I mean the art director said in that art video last year, "It's all about the details."Comment

Re: NBA 2K19 Screenshot - Blake Griffin (Overall Rating - 86)
It does not value the skills/abilities that are asked out of present-day PFs.
Many modern PFs are still listed as SFs by NBA 2K (Giannis Antetokounmpo, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, James Johnson, Justise Winslow, Marcus Morris, Rudy Gay, P.J. Tucker, Rondae-Hollis Jefferson, Harrison Barnes, I keep thinking I'll run out of examples) because switching their position decimates their OVR rating by 5 points. What was once just Dirk Nowitzki is now half of all players playing the position.
Draymond Green has a 75 3pt Open Shot.
Raise it to 99 and his OVR doesn't change.
Drop it to 25 and his OVR doesn't change.

Re: NBA 2K19 Screenshot - Blake Griffin (Overall Rating - 86)
I believe it drastically underrates PF that have athleticism and can handle+shoot the ball. For example Griffin goes from a 83 OVR PF to a 86 OVR SF with Rashidi's ratings whereas Zach Randolph only goes down 1 OVR when going from PF to SF when he is clearly incapable of playing SF.Comment

Re: NBA 2K19 Screenshot - Blake Griffin (Overall Rating - 86)
Having to relegate players to one position for purposes of ratings is the issue here. Not where they're listed at. Giannis is just as much a PG as a SF or a PF or even a C. Same with LeBron. PJ Tucker and Harrison Barnes can play and guard three positions in today's NBA.It does not value the skills/abilities that are asked out of present-day PFs.

2k needs to fix their rating system so they're not as reliant on positional basketball (in regards to ratings) as they are. In real life, if you move Giannis to PG or center he is not suddenly a worse player than if you put him at SF. Even PJ Tucker can play three positions and he's not a worse player at center than he is at SF in today's NBA. He's literally the same guy.
The only way they're going to fix this is if they give you one global overall rating, and then your match-up determines if your individual ratings go up or down on each side of the ball. Then you'd really get to see the separation between "match-up proof" stars and average NBA players.
To be fair, it'd probably take a team of people quite a long time to create an on-the-fly rating system, which is probably the reason why we've been stuck with this antiquated rating system since the beginning of the 2k series. But, they could probably come up with some sort of work around, like having one global rating and then no positions whatsoever when you're setting up a lineup and have the user (or CPU) decide who guards who at each substitution based on a list of factors.
Or they could just get rid of the SF/PF and PG/SG designations altogether and just use G/F/C since most guys don't really fit into one area any longer.Last edited by BA2929; 08-13-2018, 10:13 PM."Baseball is the coolest sport because, at any moment, the catcher can stop the game and go tell the pitcher a secret" - Rob FeeComment
