I play offline only and I find that update banner rude and unnecessary. I don't understand why they plaster it on the screen in the middle of a game and keep it their!? If their is an update just allow the update the next time you are at the home screen. No need for that rude banner! remove it from the game!

Doesn't mean it can't be an issue on your end. Hardware can cause issues too. Maybe you have a bad ethernet cable. Maybe the port on your router is bad. Maybe the modem or router glitched. Hell, maybe it was your console.

I absolutely understand the frustration, but you're not helping with threads like this. If it's happening consistently, post it in the bugs/glitches thread, and take to 2K's social media accounts to try and get it on their radar.
