Players not checking in on a dead ball?

Has anyone else had this happen to them? Made manual subs, ball went out of bounds a play or two later, no subs. Went out of bounds on purpose the next play, no subs. Only after I purposely fouled did my subs finally take effect

Yep, encountered that. Not on every game, but several times since game dropped.

I don't think they let your subs in if you intentionally step out of bounds... I don't think they count it as a "dead ball" when you do that... You either have to foul or there has to be a turnover where the ball itself goes out of bounds... I might be wrong but I think that's why

Have you looked up the rules on subbing during dead balls? Not every dead ball let's you sub in players in the NBA.

Anytime the ref blows a whistle its always a dead ball.
