Does Shot Timing Matter (only tested in Practice)

So I was practicing with the Grizzlies in myleague. I started a freestyle practice and was using Valanciunas, Jaren, and Ja. I struggle getting greens and kept missing, so I got frustrated and just started holding the shoot button down as long as I could, and to my surprise I seemed to make just as many very late released shots as slightly late/early ones.

Thinking it must be just because I'm in freestyle mode, I added defenders into the mix by going to the practice plays mode. And it kept happening. I pretty much only play myleague where every game counts so I haven't gotten a chance to test it live in a real game.

Most of these happened wide open or 10% or less contested rate. But I still think if you get a very late release it shouldn't go in. Unless maybe if it's a wide open layup I guess
