    Passing??

Far to often whenever i throw a pass the player catching the ball always jumps, sometimes it slows down the fast break, any way to stop this?

this is a part of how 2k wants to control what people see in the game and attempt to control fast breaks.

This also has to do with the ratings of the person passing it and the distance. I would say if you have breakstarter and you are a big with a decent pass rating, you wont see as many silly catch animations. unless the receiver is a low rated player. Even without break starter, if you're a big with say a 50 to 60 pass rating. you can chuck it down court and not get the bs pass animations all the time.

If you're not a big and you have a pass rating of 85 and lower. no breakstarter badge. you will get those silly animations more often. doesnt make any sense i know but it is...what it is.

2k makes a lot of attempts to give us what they would call contextual animations. meaning, what would a person do in this same scenario in real life. they do this to keep the game from looking super quirky(this goes back to ea's nba elite, having a lot more freedom than we've ever had before and how that could make the game look wonky/quirky if you have someone that doesnt know what they're doing on the controls. they dont want that because they know people are taking snap shots, youtubing, using mixer, using, etc to broadcast games. so this is how 2k attempts to make their product LOOK better in these scenarios. the problem with that, is you and I the users lose control of our players if they do this too often. which they do in 2k20.

In addition all the crying and complaining goes back to say 2k12 about guys fast breaking so much. people cried about it, so they came up with 3 ways to stop fast breaks. recently its the interceptor badge thats super OP, this badge can slow down the actual ball in mid flight..you have to pay attention to notice this. there are times where you know good and well the ball should've been well beyond the defenders reach, yet he miraculously tips it. this is to control fast breaks.

#2. The bobble catch, this is to give the defense a chance to catch up. You will see this even if you have high rated passers and you and your team are running someone off the court. if you get too many fast breaks in a row. beware, that next one(not sure of the number because i'm too lazy to count. ) will be a bobbled catch or make the receiver turn completed around to catch the ball so its not caught in stride.

#3. The DUMB throw away animations. we know them, we've seen them. You the passer has no one on you or near you. you are perfectly facing the person you're about to throw it to. you either direction pass it or icon pass it(or RB LB...to hit the person closest to the basket). doesnt matter, 2ks No fast breaks algorithm kicks in and says you're going to throw this one away regardless. The animation is... the pass goes towards the receiver thats alone and waiting for the pass. out of the blue, the receiver moves out of the way of the pass(the user controller the receiver didnt touch a thing or is moving in one direction and the cpu jerks the user in another direction to make sure he misses the catch.)

Those 3 are all to stop TOO many fast breaks and keep the crying to a minimum.

2k chose these methods because they are either too lazy or they want to make sure people that are not that good can do it to, to create a baseline system where basketball IQ needs to be used to stop people from fast breaking so often. like, stop taking long 2's and 3's with guys that cant shoot that well or guys with hands in their faces. or stop throwing horrible passes, getting them picked off.. but even that last one is half on 2k because of the op interceptor badge, which can make a pass not be passed when the user hit the pass button. giving the defender a chance to get back in position to steal/tip a pass, or slows the ball down in mid air giving the defender a chance to tip it or steal it or at least crowd the catcher.

your best bet is to have guys with much higher pass ratings. get a guard with at least a 90 pass rating and make sure needle threader is on gold or HOF (to be safe). but then you need your teammates to be 89+ overall, to stop the crazy amt of silly bad catch animations they will get otherwise.

with all that said. try using the bounce pass more, and try using the Triange(playstation) or Y button (one tap(not lob)) to make more precise passes that dont cause as many fumble or spin around catch animations as the regular chest pass button.

i noticed this has started happening A LOT lately, it wasn’t like this before..now every pass i throw no matter if i’m mycareer or myleague, the receiver always has to jump for it, or do some other silly catch animation that slows down the break.

            Use the bounce pass.

For some reason these only work on layups and drives. There is something that messes with the timing on jumpers. Same thing for flashy passes. It's been in the game for years now. Even with Dimer HOF if I'm passing to CPU or user teammates with bounce or flashy passes they brick more often than not.

Any pass out of a double team or possible double team is inaccurate.

Icon passes are the best if you dont try to lead the receiver.

With needle thread on at least bronze you can by pass those with interceptor.

Ofcourse your passing rating still matters.

all that above is true. but the passer does not have to be double teamed at all and neither does the receiver. and there will still be some dumb catch animation to slow down the next move that the receiver could have made.

i've said this before in here. 2k devs have made shortcuts in this game. instead of giving people more abilities to play proper defense and giving them the room to learn while not over powering offense. They instead jump for the easy route. how's about i make you fumble the catch like everyone player is kwame brown with baby oil in his hands. And this way, the defense will always have a shot at defending you. how's that sound guys? lol

This is 2k in a nutshell.
