Best way to get though multiple seasons without just simming?

Wanted to discuss this. Two main theories:

#1 Has anyone done the “adjust to 12 minute quarters” option? If so, does that work well over the course of a year or does it make things wonky somehow?

#2 What about using the simcast for the first 3 quarters and then just playing the 4th? You don’t get the full experience that way though.

Personally I play every sixth game, gives you about 14 games, I supersim every other game and jump in if its within 3 points in the last 5 minutes. Gets me through seasons moderately quickly while still helping me feel ownership of the team

I play one game every calender week. This equals out to about 27ish games a season. I feel it makes it a good combo of user skill and team building to win sim games

I will usually play out of conference games if it’s against a team I haven’t faced in awhile and I typically try to at least play each conference opponent once. I always Simcast the first 3 quarters and will play the entire 4th if the game is still competitive. If it’s a blowout I just simcast till the end

I only now from recent years but when you used this but stats from your played games will get really ridiculous, as especially scoring, but also other stuff, is just way too much when playing the game instead of simming (for both you and for the AI).

I’ve done like a football schedule lol. I play each team outside division once and division opponents twice(one home, one away). That’s about 33 games I think. Rest simmed.

I’ve also with my expansion team just played a 30 game season playing each team once.

I wish one of the offseason rule change could be changing season length.

I play 8 minute quarters for most games. I do 12 minute quarters for whatever team I'm focusing on. I try to play at least 1 or 2 games a week. The seasons move along at a decent clip, I think.

I play 6 min quarters and then adjust to 11 minutes.I also simcast most games and jump in at different points. Works pretty well.

Re: Best way to get though multiple seasons without just simming?

This is a topic I'm always considering as I play games for all 5 team sports and try to complete seasons with limited time to play. Both of your options are good, and there's a few more out there, too. Here are some positives and negatives based on my experiences.

                    Short quarters scaled:
+ Every start is yours in less time
+ More games remain close late
                    - Wonky team stats like PPG & rebounds

                    Sim until 4th:
+ Always play the most important moments (like The Show or Madden)
+ Good balance of team building & stick skills
                    - Sometimes jump into a blowout

                    Playing limited games:
+ Play the matchups you find most interesting
+ Another good balance of team building & stick skills
                    - Will miss some great endings entirely

                    Long quarters:
                    + Most realistic experience possible
                    - Burnout

                    Sim everything:
+ See long term storylines and trends through the league
                    - Disconnect with your own team

What I do is try to figure out how many hours I want to devote to each season, then come up with a plan to play so I have the most fun in those hours.

Re: Best way to get though multiple seasons without just simming?

For me, I usually play the first few games of the season, to get a feel for my roster, and my players, and once I am in a good spot with them, I start simming through games and playing important conference games that could impact my playoff positioning. If I start going on a losing streak in the sims, I will usually play a manual game to see if I can stop the skid. And if I make any trades or have significant injuries, I usually play at least the first game with the new adjustments so I can get a feel for my new rotation.

As a Magic fan who lives in the Bay Area, I usually also manually play the games when I visit the Warriors and the Kings, since those are games in real life I would usually go to, so it's fun to play those games. Plus it gives me a chance to play some different teams.

I usually manually play about 20-30 games a season, and with so many games being simmed, it also means my team building is important as well, I can't just manually run with a bunch of scrubs that I just figured out how to manually use, I need to build a team that can hold strong in the 50-60 sim games per season as well. It also has the flip effect of helping me out if my user skills have my team under-performing in manual games, I still have an opportunity to not completely destroy my seeding.

And then of course I manually play any post-season game my team is in.

Simcast Live is really a fun option, and mainly it produces interesting stats. I personally like them better than the reg sim stats, but now they have an adjust sim stats option, so I dunno. I do think there are way too few turnovers and FTs, though, but I think it'd be fun to do simcast live. You could do simcast live and jump in when you felt the urge, you know? If you watch what's going on, a lot of interesting scenarios play out, best player getting injured/foul trouble... getting down double digits, guy going off and wanting to add to his stats, etc.

I've done simcast of whole seasons (even before they gave you VC.) It's just somehow really fun to watch the pogs play and be like HOW U MISS THAT!! I dunno, as someone who has watched games that way (but just in play-by-play mode, usually), I can relate. The pogs just make it more real.

I'd love to have the issues fixed with it but it uses the actual game play sliders, so I dunno how it's possible to get turn overs up. I used to be able to get them up with like attack basket up, ball security down, steal success ( which used to be related to bump steals which they took out of the game.) Now, I dunno, but I haven't played with it too much.

Fouls are also a mystery. But like I said: in simcast live, the game sliders affect game play, so you can try to make it work. Of course, you'd be jumping in that game, so you can't make pure cpu v cpu sliders.

The only reason I don't like letting the computer scale up the stats by playing less actual minutes is that the implication is that a team would have maintained the same exact output or consistency in 45 minutes as they would have in an hour. Picky, I know, but the "estimation" element of that while every other team does 12 actual simulated minutes bothers me, but that's probably just me.

I'm one who's really big on a realistic season. However, I have never been supportive of the 82-game season if you want to actually play every minute (which I always do because what's the point if not?) I'm currently doing a fantasy draft league with 24 teams and it gave me the option to play 46 games. I'm not sure if they adjusted that due to playing each opponent twice. But generally, I think the 58-game season if perfect if you plan on playing every game with one team. Why feel the need to speed through the season? Enjoy it like it's real life, and treat it as if it's actually real life or just an alternate season to the real NBA.
