There are two things nba 2k needs to bring back on defense from nba 2k12

Those two things are:

1. The "cut off move".
This move was done by holding R2 + L2 + move Left stick in any direction to perform a quick hop. That quick hop in which the user could control was soooo key

2. "Force direction"
If i remember correctly, you would hold L2 for intense defense, then tap the right stick left or right and you would actually see your defender switch sides of the ballhandler, with his opposite arm out, in a very user controlled fashion.

The user had these controls on defense. These are the things that made it harder for the Giannis, Ben Simmon, and other quick guards from just driving to the rim with no resistance AT ALL!

Combine those features with improved physics for drawing charges and maybe playing defense will be fun again.

If they brought back the cut-off, the left stick would have to be double-tapped instead of being singularly pressed in a direction, otherwise you’d get thrown out of position much more often than you’d like (I’m sure a lot of you remember that in 2k12). Having to feather the left stick in spur-of-the-moment, tight situations would be extremely difficult.

1) That cut off mechanic was TERRIBLE defensive fundamentals. Jumping around will get you cooked.

2) you can shade now without the gimmick, just hold L2, feather the stick shade them. With the right stick you can have active hands as well.

I thought option 2 was available in NBA 2K10, but I did like how you could flick the RS to shade left/right of for gap, moderate, and tight. It did the defensive player from being caught up in some stupid turning animation.

1) is still i the game, isnt it?
2) we definitely need again! Thats the main principle of what a defender does: Give the opponent options to choose from. Its either dribble left, dribble right, or shoot.

Yea, they had the satellite. It was still clunky IMO, but i think it was a decent tool to teach distance.
