That's right, I'm back to being annoyed by it again. It's just too lame. It's turned online into a clown show, and it was already bad when people could make their own 3s on release.
It's extremely doubtful that the PS4/5 cannot recognize a foreign device for what it is, or, if it can't, that they couldn't put in something to make it so it can. PC games have dealt with cheating issues, and there is generally a way around it, but 1. it's hard enough that not everyone does it and 2. you get banned if you do get caught.
I realize that banning people outright, while I feel it's the right decision, is too heavy handed for something that has become so wide spread. It would be NICE to have people get a warning like... we detect you are using said hardware, this is your first an only warning, after which your player will be deleted/made inaccessible online. Some people might try to make a min req player and keep getting it deleted, but that's a lot of work to cheat.
My problem with it is this: I am pretty sure there is a steal script. I know how to steal, but I'm pretty sure they have some combination of buttons that makes stealing from a dribbling ball handler most effective. I'm positive they have dribble moves, and of course there is shot release. What part of the game is even left?
Regardless of whether or not you can stop it, or how nice it makes one feel to make a cheater quit, this has ushered in the darkest age of 2k basketball. I don't understand why people aren't being punished when... as long as the scripts are available, it should be easy to identify them when used online. Especially considering they use them constantly.
Again, there might be people who used it very sparingly, like only when they needed a bucket and escaped 'justice', but that would still be better than this, and one could submit video evidence for those players.
Seeing whole squads of people all with it is face palm level.
