Defense recently got way worse?

I have CPU defense sliders jacked way up and the past few months I’ve had what I consider pretty perfect gameplay. Good help, sticky on ball D. All good (other than mismatches not being guarded). All of a sudden 3-4 days ago, the CPU D is stupid, 2K21 style. I can drive super easily and freeze defenders. P&R is ridiculously spammable and it WAS NOT before with my slider setup. Wtf happened?

This game is so weird. I turned by CPU defense sliders up from 80 to 93 and defense got crazy tough again. So I lowered it back down to the mid 80’s and I’m having a hard time scoring. Either the algorithm just obliterated my momentum or sometimes it seems like adjusting sliders super high then putting them back works as sort of a “kickstart” to get the cpu defense working well again.

That does sound like the CPU may be playing around with the difficulty under the hood and needs to have the numbers manually adjusted every once in a while to reset things back to your personal default

This happened to me too. Had to make some extreme slider changes to get gameplay back to what it was before.

Ok so it’s not just me. As soon as I jacked CPU defense stuff to over 90 it got REALLY tough. And their tough momentum continued when I put it back to my previous mid 80’s setting. At least I know it can be fixed.

So I played 3 to 4 games yesterday. This is shortly after raising then lowering my sliders to where they previously were which worked as a “reset.” Defense was so tough I almost lowered the defense sliders as it was hard to score. Then all of a sudden by my second or third game, defense got super easy again. And not in the “you’re just on a good run” easy. Like 2K21 easy where elite/quick players can just turbo past anyone and those defenders just stay stuck and don’t move to follow you. A couple games before that happened the defense was SO good, help arrived, even mismatches started seeing help (if I was backing down a PG with my center). This is annoying.

The game is broken, imo. At least from a basketball sim standpoint. I understand that people who don't mind the arcade feel enjoy the game and that's great for them.

Personally I'm at the point where I might pack it in and focus on getting my algorithms tuned and spreadsheets ready for next season. There is enough film to watch to keep me going until then. I figure; try to get everything as ready as I can and then hope that things like defensive settings, help and rotations actually work in next year's product.
