Would anyone be interested in a What-If Roster?

I got the idea while reading Bill Simmon's book about Basketball. I think I'm going to create a roster that relives all the what-if scenarios.

Like, what if Detroit chose Carmelo over Darko or what if KG never left Minnesota?

There will be guidelines like I won't do what-ifs with Free Agents (ex: putting Kobe on the Clippers or Ray Allen back on the Sonics/Thunder).

I just thought it would be cool to have a fun roster like this in addition to the old-school ones Portlandblazer would make. So you can pass the time waiting for a new patch or waiting to start an Association. lol

Probably will take me about a week to do since I will base it off of my roster and re-do all the what-if scenarios since the 2000 Draft.

Anyone got any what-if scenarios that they would like to see in it or will anyone want this uploaded when I'm done?

Most obvious would be Jordan picked at #2.

Or what if Jordan came out of retirement the first time and did go to the Lakers...

It'd be neat, but an impossible task.. what if Jordan went to any of the other 31 teams? How would you decide which team to put him on?

Dude I think this is a great idea and one that should have been mentioned a while ago. I also like the idea that it's only from 2000 to now. To many people would be asking for Jordan's over Bowie's and etc.

Here are some what if's for the era you are talking about.

What if Tim Duncan joined Grant Hill and T-Mac in Orlando in 2000?

What if Allen Iverson was traded to the Piston's in that four team deal back in the summer of 2000?

What if Detroit picked Bosh/Melo/Wade over Darko in 03?

What if Washington picked Pau Gasol over Kwame Brown in 2001?

What if Shaq got traded to Dallas in 04 instead of Miami?

What if KG was traded to the Lakers instead of the Celtics? (Where would have Gasol been now)

Thanks. These are all the ideas that I was thinking about. I would limit it to trades and drafts since if we counted to Free Agent What-Ifs then it would go overboard.

I'm going to do some more research and see what the rosters look like before I would do it.

What if Celtics never traded Joe Johnson,

what if Suns never traded Rajon Rondo,

What if Hawks never traded Pau Gasol to the Griz when they drafted him.

What if Hornets kept Kobe Bryant.

What if Tmac and VC were still on the raptors and never got hurt.

I think this is a really cool idea and you really dont need much to do it. All you really need is the roster from that year. After that, you go and do the research on whatever scenario to help you create the circumstances around any "what if". Also to really play it out, you can set it up then use that roster in association mode. The possibilities are endless. What if the Bucks never traded Kareem? What if Jordan didnt play that game with the flu? What if Carmelo got drafted out of high school? What if next season comes and Lebron decides to play in Miami with Wade?

I actually did this in NBA 2K9 and I started in 2004. I did most of the things he (Bill Simmons) except those that conflict with another "What if". Man, it was a lot of work since even one change has repercussions to multiple teams. I actually had a spreadsheet (with salaries and all) and researched ALOT rumors and potential deals from 2004-2009, . Now, in 2k10, I did something simpler. Since I'm a Cavs fan, I did the whole "What if Boozer never screwed the Cavaliers". See, that brings out complications, who'd Utah sign that year with all of their cap space? Anyway, I'll be glad to share my spreadsheet to the OP if he wants. Or maybe share some ideas.

Yeah that would be cool. Right now I've got 75% of this project done using BasketballReference.com and some of the suggestions on this post. All I need to do now is clean everything up.

But the spreadsheet would help because the Draft what-ifs are throwing everything out of wack cause. Ex: I have no idea what to do with LeMarcus Aldridge.

I should be done with this in the next couple of days.

What if the Raptors never traded for Vince, still had McGrady, Billups, Camby, never drafted Araujo, didn't draft Bargnani first.

This would be difficult to incorporate the endless "what if's".

                              Good idea though.
