    1985-1986 Season (360)

I have FINALIZED my final roster set for this year, the 1985-1986 season. This was my FAVORITE all-time season, as my Celtics dominated the league. Larry Bird won league MVP, and the addition of Bill Walton to the Celtics (who IMO is one of the top 3 passing big men of all time, and played an amazing 80 of 82 games, plus all playoff games) was a thing of beauty to witness...

Use the following teams when playing:

    Retro Teams:
    - 86 Bulls
    - 86 Celtics
    - 90 Hawks
    - 90 Cavaliers
    - 90 Pistons
    - 91 Lakers
    - 95 Knicks

    Created Teams:
    - Spurs, Bullets, Bucks, SuperSonics, Nets, Pacers

    Normal Teams:
    - 76ers, Clippers, Jazz, Kings, Mavericks, Nuggets, Rockets, Suns, Trail Blazers, Warriors

Thanks to portlandblazer for allowing me to use his 1984-85 season as the base.

All rotations set for 12 minute quarters. No specific slider set in mind, but I use mine (thread is located in the slider section).

    Enjoy!

Thank you very much mkharsh for another roster patch. When I picked up nba 2k11, I had very high hope that someone will create great retro rosters.... you and portland brought us high quality rosters covering many awesome NBA years from the past. The players look great and they play very much like.

However I was hoping either you or portland will do 72-win bulls season. (this just happens to be my all time fav NBA season - maybe I should have made request sooner!!!) but I completely understand that you need to finish your final roster to enjoy 2k11 yourself from here on.

Again thank you always for your hard work and hope to see your rosters next year as well.

          Update... Wed. 2-23 @ 4:15 pm

I have all 23 teams with 100% correct transactions and all players added. There were 325 players total who played on an NBA team that season. This file will include 302 of them...

I'll provide specific notes when completed, but you'll need to use the following teams:

          Retro Teams:
          - 86 Bulls
          - 86 Celtics
          - 90 Hawks
          - 90 Cavaliers
          - 90 Pistons
          - 91 Lakers
          - 95 Knicks

          Created Teams:
          - Spurs, Bullets, Bucks, SuperSonics, Nets, Pacers

          Normal Teams:
          - 76ers, Clippers, Jazz, Kings, Mavericks, Nuggets, Rockets, Suns, Trail Blazers, Warriors

I'll now start the process of editing all players for correct jersey #s, experience, schools... Also, I'll be using a rating system I've created to re-rate players attributes.

Should hopefully have this file done by the weekend...

I appreciate you posting which teams to use when customizing teams to create a season. Can you please do this with your other retro rosters?

It is quite annoying to not be sure which teams to include in the customizing and then start a season and see the wrong teams in there.

At this rate, I'm going to forget about current rosters altogether, and just play with the classics until NBA 2K12 comes out.

Couldn't agree more. I've played and watched more games in my 89-90 Lakers Assoc. than any other mode this year. The various rosters that everyone has done this season have been amazing.

MK will be glad to know that his Celtics are currently battling the Cavs in the Eastern Conference Finals....watching Game 1 now actually.

As far as 85-86 goes, I cannot wait to attempt to SkyHook my way past Houston's Twin Towers.

                  ^^ LOL!!!

I have 6 teams totally done (ratings updates complete and depth charts/minutes set): Bulls, Celtics, Cavs, Hawks, Pistons and Lakers.

I'll admit the funnest CAP I made is Georgi Glouchkov of the Suns...dude has some major high cheek bones going on!

This roster set is gonna be fun... It's amazing how many GREAT rookies there were in this class, quite possibly one of the best ever. I'll work on this some more tonight (late) and hopefully some on Friday. If all goes well I'll be shooting for either a LATE Saturday night or LATE Sunday night release. Worst-case scenario is a definite Monday (as I'm off that day).

I'll be getting in some World B. Free action...

Nearly done... Only 6 teams left and then I'll be posting this on 2K Share.

I took a timeout to play the Celtics (me) at Cleveland. World B. Free torched me for 38 pts... I lost by 12, but that didn't matter. Just wanted to get a feel for how they play and I'm VERY pleased.

Need to wrap up the Mavericks, Blazers, Warriors, Rockets, Suns and Nuggets.

That's awesome!!! Hope you enjoy them. I've put a ton of time into this file and I think you'll love playing with the Lakers.

I also think it would be cool if you guys were willing to take a few moments and provide box scores from the games you play...

1st off another great roster!!!! i just started a season with them. i was gonna roll with my show time lakers, but after looking over tha teams rosters i decided to roll with barkley and tha 76ers.

i'm using your sliders(with minor tweaks to tha shooting sliders).

my 1st game was against bird and your celtics. man, did they come to play. bird, mchale, and parish were lighting me up. 1st quarter they jumped out to a 31-19 lead. after that tha 2nd and 3rd quarter were both real close. i was able to get within 8, but after that my guys couldn't make a shot and boston started heating up in tha 4th.

i ended up losing by like 20 points. sorry i don't have any stats. my next game is vs tha suns, i'll be sure to post some stats from that 1.

i gotta get used to using tha 76ers. i was only 8 in 1985, so i didn't see much basketball back then.

do you have any suggestions on how i should run them? they seem like a inside outside kind of team with malone and barkley. Dr. J, seems like he has a pretty good mid range shot, and of course he can throw it down in tha right situations.

also, what playbook would u suggest i run with them?

                            thx

I will admit that I struggle greatly with playbooks. You might want to PM portlandblazer on those. I really don't have a good feel for them.

I really put a lot more time into this file than the others, and my focus was more on player models, touches, attributes, accessories and trying to recapture what I recall about that season.

The Sixers ran a lot of isolation players with Erving on the wing. Barkley would either post up or clear a side and go one on one. Moses posted up and Cheeks' offense was primarily on the break with layups or nailing those open jumpers when the other guys were double-teamed. And the guy who always frustrated me the most was Bobby Jones. The guy knew how to move and get open, and always ran the floor on the break...

Appreciate the kind words. I've made some tweaks to my sliders that I'll be posting late tonight. I had to be at the office this afternoon following church, but I'll get those out and you can see what you think. WARNING: the cpu's offense will be ramped up a bit (as will the user's as I was struggling to get points). but I want to see shooting percentages raised a bit... I know this will take care of that!
