i dont know if i am the onyl person who feels this way but for some reason basketball games are just completely whack. The best basketball game ever was nba for dreamcast. That was GREAT!! From top to bottom nothing was wrong wiht it to me. But then why did dreamcast ever go out of business??? They partnered with ps2 and that game was horrible on ps2 and it has gone down hill since. Nba live never appealed to me but 05 gave me a quick high but then i realized that was gargabe too. Do you think this new nex generation stuff will revive basketball games as we know it. Or should i just buy dreamcast again and play a real basetball game?? And let me know if i am the only person feeling this way?

Re: IS IT ME????
Well, honestly, I could never find out exactly WHY NBA 2K1 and NBA 2K2 on Dreamcast were so terrific. I mean, they were, no doubt, but which intangible was it? Was it just the controller? Was it the camera angle? What exactly was it?
I've come to realize that it's hard for me to play basketball games, and it's the main reason I love baseball games so much. Nine players all get the same chance to do the same thing, and the balls sprayed to them on defense are basically randomized. In basketball, you can choose the scorer, and then you have to play the percentages as to whether they'll make the shot or not. I don't quite enjoy that as much as I used to... don't know why.
In hockey it's almost the same concept, only less broad. There are many less scoring chances, and I just pass to the most open person for a shot. There aren't really as many leading scorers, it's just the center and the two wings. As for football, I let the CPU choose the play (run or pass); if it's pass, I find the open person.
That's what makes basketball so hard, considering they don't steal the ball or block the shots much. So, passing isn't as relevant as it needs to be. Just find which man you want before the shot clock runs out, and... well, then the percentages are played afterward.
It makes me wonder why I should ever buy a basketball game again, if the concept itself is flawed for, me at least, to control 5 people to shoot at different times of a game.
So, in a way, it's you... and probably everybody else. I may be alone on this one.Last edited by Blzer; 07-16-2005, 09:22 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60 -

Re: IS IT ME????
oh give me a break......NBA 2k1 and 2k2 are the most over-rated basketball games in the history of basketball games
they were great at that time compared to the other games coming out. I mean, they had great graphics and good gameplay. But comparing them to games out now, is just stupid. They were great at that time. What do you mean, nothing was wrong with the game? Presentation was weak. There was only two kinds of dribble moves. The shooting animation wasn't really right. It was too quick. There was really no fastbreak. It was no challenge, the game was way too easy. The spin move was unstoppable. Anytime you wanted to get to the hole, use the spin move.
NBA 2k2 is like the Dreamcast. The Dreamcast was ahead of its time. But if you bring it out now, its not really goin compete. NBA 2k1 and 2k2 was great at the time. But even with its flaws, NBA 2k5 is obviously better than both games.
The problem is everyone's expectations are so high now. Back then, Live was really the only game out, so when the 2k series came out, it was like "Dang, way better graphics, and good gameplay" You didnt really have expectations cuz Live wasn't really competing regardless. Now adays, so many great nonsports games and sports games comes out, everyone expects so much from the series now. I look back at NBA 2k2, if VC right now, took NBA 2k2 and just updated the rosters, i wouldn't play that game. It was great at the time.....but leave it alone.
2k1 and 2k2 are way too overrated, the animations(other than a few, and i stress, a lil....dunk animations) aren't even competing with animations in live or 2k5Last edited by Blackwiz; 07-16-2005, 10:52 PM.Jersey Made Me, Florida Staged Me...Tee

Re: IS IT ME????
I think 2k2 for dreamcast is the best bball game ever, this year I played more games with dreamcast 2k2 than 2k5 or live 2005...
and if you want facts:
1. better post game than any other game you just can't compare it.
2. better animation drive dunks etc.
3. it has fade away's 2k5 blocks all fade away's (left and right)
4. spin left right 2k5 has no spin.
5. better franchise mode and it has season also. 2k5 has no season mode.
6. Robinson, Hakeem, Ewing and Jordan 2k5 has 25 versions of Shaq.
7. button for defence stance 2k5 has the stupid double team or run like stupid here and there.
8. nice music In menus and nice intro.Comment

2. No, better dunk animations....2k5 has better driving to the hole animations and better animations overall, the dunk animation is the only thing screwed up in 2k5, compared to 2k2
3. While 2k2 has a fadaway, 2k5 has so many shooting animations(depends on how u shoot it) that fits so much better than the wierd shooting animation that 2k2 has
4. NBA 2k5 does have a spin move....what are u talkin about??
5. How does it have a better franchise mode?? If anything, 2k5's franchise mode is better because it offers a lil bit more. As far as im concerned, in both franchises, you can trade, sign, sim and everything else. There's nuttin to brag about 2k2s franchise as if it has sumthin over 2k5's. Both of them arent special.
6. Uhh.....ookkkaaayyy
7. defensive stance button is real cheesy....u just cant play defense in 2k5
8. There was nuttin special about 2k2's menus....and if anything, 2k5 has better music, because with the xbox, u can have custom music, and 2k5's intro was straight too
NBA 2k5>>>NBA 2k2.....everyone is just biased.....its becoming something ur just supposed to say....."oh, 2k2 is the best"

Re: IS IT ME????
WOW if you really think Live 2005 or Nba 2k5 are decent basketball games you really dont no basketball. Live 2005 was extremely dissapointing. I will not lie ever since live has left sega it has sucked. I think 2005 was the best live ever but the game only gives you a quick 2-3 week high. i know about 40 people off the top of my head who had live that played the dunk contest more than the game. The gameplay is awful. I led the league in scoring and rebounding with eddy curry. The post up is unstoppable. All that fancy dribbling is unnecessary who does that in the NBA??? the rating system is completely out of whack. And 3 pointers come a dime a dozen. Lets not even talk about fast break it should be called takeoff no team in the nba is hat fast running fast breaks.
NBA2K5- wow i dont even have words for this game. Everything from top to bottom is bad about this game. dribbling, post up, shooting, graphics, and total gameplay is horrendus. shaq doing layups and reverse layups??? real soon.lol
If NBA 2K2 had the updated rules and rosters i guarentee that game would sell out. 20 or 50 dollars. but really though 3 words for all basketball games that will come out. NO MORE SLIDERS!!! They just totally ruin the gameOriginally posted by SullyAs for this thread, it's ridiculous. I dont even like Live....and yes, NBA 2k5 has its issues......but you just seem to ignore all of the problems that are in NBA 2k2.
Isomotion is garbage, wasnt done right. Now lets go to 2k2. Its has an unstoppable spin move. Any time you want to get to the hole and dunk or lay it in, use the spin move, because its unstoppable. Not to mention that there are only 2 dribblin moves in the game. The post game in 2k5 was weak. You really couldn't back down with players on little players, easier, like you should beable to. But what was so special about NBA 2k2?? There were no post moves in that game. It was just back down and then it a shot or turn around and shoot a layup. And you can also spin around players. Thats one thing I'll give it over 2k5. Because in 2k2, you can actually use Kobe and spin around the defender. But 2k2 has no post moves. Atleast 2k5 has some sort of post moves. Shooting?? Whats wrong with the shooting? It has more than one shooting animation, which is better than 2k2's 2 shooting animations. The release is better in 2k5 than it is in 2k2.
Okay, now im confused. Graphics?? NBA 2k5's graphics are OBVIOUSLY better than NBA 2k2's graphics. So, what kind of argument is that. If you think 2k2's graphics are better, then you need glasses. Now, in 2k5, some issues are like Shaq not playing like Shaq, and other players doing ugly layups n watnot. But that alone does not make 2k2 the best basketball game.
NBA 2k2 is TOO easy. The spin move gets around the defender every time. I played that game, and its just too easy to make jumpshots. NBA 2k2 has no fastbreak. The players stop to catch the ball. While, NBA 2k5, the players shoot those lil hook shots and layups too much, in NBA 2k2, they shoot 2 foot jumpers too much. The presentation is weak.
Ur not making any kind of argument. You just point out the good in 2k2 and the bad in 2k5.
NBA 2k2 is the most overrated basketball game EVER.......Jersey Made Me, Florida Staged Me...Tee

Re: IS IT ME????
Re: IS IT ME????
I think that in general, sports games are kinda going downhill...the main reason is that new releases just don't impact us or impress us the way they did 5-10 years ago. So either our expectations are too high or the gaming companies are not able to currently advance at the same rates they did years ago.
I remeber playing Live '96 on PSOne, the older triple play series before it went bad, and countless other sports games that had me excited all the time. Nowadays, we get all excited months ina dvance before a realease only to get 2 or 3 different games for a sports genre in which each game has something the other doesn't.
With Live this past year, something was different, though. I don't know what it was, but despite its many problems, something just made it incredibly fun for me (maybe it was the atmosphere). MM'05 was fun for a few weeks, then I quickly tired of it. As for the 2k hoops games, I felt they were both a little too stiff. And besides that, neither would play a full game in my xbox w/out freexzing (i blame the Thompson drive).
But yes, in closing, I think 90% of the major sports games (boxing, baseball, football, hoops, etc.) are just out of whack nowadays.Unofficial OS Ambassador of "CPU vs. CPU"

The post game in 2k5 is repetitive and stupid, crappy players shouldnt have up and under moves and stuff. At least 2k2 felt real when you backed someone down with shaq.Originally posted by Blackwiz1. The post game is i guess better than 2k5, but its not great

2k2 has way more animations than 2k5 its not even comparable. And I'm talking in general, not just dunks and layups. Everything in that game is SMOOTH, whereas 2k5 is all herky jerky.
The shooting animations are a little stiff in 2k2, but they adjusted depending on how the D played you. That's not something they have in 2k5.
Isomotion sucks.
I dont care about Franchice. Gameplay is my thing.
I want defensive stance, I want to feel like I'm doing something on Defense.
And that's my .02. 2k2 has yet to be matched by any bball game.

Re: IS IT ME????
Seriously, ya'll kats are stuck on something that honestly is not real. 2K2 was the dumbest A.I. For all these kats speaking how 2K2 & 2K3 is so tight, ya'll must be garbage. Those games have no type of competition in them unless you're playing someone who's just as good or better than ya'll. Me being in college, I saw that those games had good foundation but just lacked with that one player stuff. You guys have to be playing by yourselves cause 2K2 & 2K3 clearly didn't do it for me. 2K 5 is the best balance out of all of them. Go ahead and speak all that stuff.
Yeah, they were good when they came out, but they died when the next installment came. Even when I got 2K4, I couldn't go back to 2K3 cause it just lacked some things that I couldn't get down with. They're good games but I just don't live in the past like that. Clearly, all the gripes ya'll have for 2K5 is pointless because ya'll seem not to have given 2K5 a chance in the first place. If you've played it, you'd know that it was a pretty solid game. Adjusting the sliders would even bring more competition to your in ways that you could only imagine. I still play it now even though I stopped because it is a near complete game. Inside Drive is close too but lacks in a lot still.
I guess it's just ya'll kats that are longing to get those Action Replay downloads to patch up 2K2/2K3 but I'm looking forward just like I've always had. I see this franchise as moving forward still. I'm satisfied with 2K5 (after slider adjustments and player editing) and can wait for 2K6 cause I have yet to master the game. If ya'll kats feel that 2K5 is an arcade game lacking, ya'll need to make your way to the Midwest where we play video games for real playa. Holler at me when you're in town and I'll set you up for something. Classics are all fun and good but improvement is always welcomed by me....Comment
