Rumor: 2K Sports Prepping NBA 2K10: Draft Combine For XBLA/PSN (Joystiq)

    Joystiq has the scoop.

"2K Games is opening up a very dangerous door, apparently, as a source close to Joystiq has passed along info on the company's new game for PSN and XBLA, called NBA 2K10: Draft Combine. Set to release alongside NBA 2K10, the spinoff game will allow players to take potential draftees through a rigorous training routine, boosting their stats before being drafted into the retail game.

We call it a "dangerous door," because, frankly, it is. Many criticize sports titles for offering little variety or improvements in each yearly iteration, and Draft Combine sounds like it could be a way to milk sports fans for even more dough. Of course, not knowing further details about the rumored game, this is just speculation, and should be taken as such."

If true, this could go down as the stupidest decision by a gaming company since Madden 09 took out CPU sliders.

What kind of loser would want to buy a game in which is you put draft prospects through training? What kind of loser came up with the idea?
It's on me. I shook his hand too hard. It was a hard ... kind of a slap-shake.

"What? You can't challenge a scoring play?''

If it is sold seperately then f*c! that but if it is a feature in NBA 2K10 or beyond than that would be awesome.

Although you're speaking facetiously, IF they actually are planning on release this as a separate game rather than part of NBA 2K10, then the text and the tone of that post was perfect IMO.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

I honestly can't be mad at them for their thoughts on capitalizing on their 2K franchise. They want to money just as any other company would who is making a killing off of the name. In all honesty, I'm waiting for NBA Head Coach.

On another note, if this is a way to give us an additional option to import created players and college prospects, then I'm feel it. Since we don't have the college hoops game, I'll wait and see what the options look like. It could probably be an additional thing they use for future 2K games to prevent the horrible transition of the imported class. I wonder what the achievements look like. I'm not sure about what I feel about this but I'm not going to jump to conclusions and assume that this game is just a cheesy way to get fast money. Though most might feel it's a rip off, I'm more inclined to see what it adds and then make my decision.

I wonder why they didn't announce this and add this to the gold edition. I'm hoping to hear more on this. I do hope that it has depth and doesn't just play us for our money.......

Sounds dumb. I hope its false.

Why the heck would I buy a "mini" game for a draft? Shouldn't the players already be drafted?

They want an extra $5 for the game and this is how they will get it.

If there is truth to the rumor, I sure hope Simballer comes in here and sees the reaction. If it's not too late to let the powers-that-be know that it's not flying with the NBA 2K community, maybe they can just make this free or something.

I have to get more details than what is currently posted, but I don't see what's the big deal. People pay for DLC all the time, and if this takes care of the many problems that people had with the draft classes in 2K9, I'm all for it. If this is indeed true, this falls imo along the same line as NBA Live charging for their DNA feature if you didn't buy the retail (which was a brilliant move on their part). No it may not be necessary to purchase it, but it could enhance your experience when playing the game. Its on you, as the customer if you want to get it or not.
