I have a quick question: Does EA Sports own the rights to ESPN right now? My belief is they've had those rights since 2005. If that be the case, I was curious as to why they have not implemented those rights to the fullest extent. I expected EA Sports titles to feature presentation seen in games such as NBA 2k3 and NFL 2k5.

So is there a general reason as to why EA Sports has held the rights to ESPN without fully utilizing them via stat overlays, Sportscenter, etc.? I do not ask to be coy, but out of sincerity. It bums me out that 2k lost the rights to ESPN they used so fully just so another company could have them and not use them. Are their plans to increase the utilization of ESPN within EA?

Further, are companies such as Fox Sports Net or TNT out of 2k's price range? They did such a solid job of implementing real life presentation through ESPN that I'd be more than happy to see them hook up with FSN but I'd guess there's a reason that's not happening.

I dont know why maybe because it would seem like EA was trying to be like 2k in presentation. It would be nice to see it like how 2k was back in the day but oh well.

I swear the music playing on the MENU from NBA 2K3 video is the best basketball related theme song that is NOT easily accessible in /mp3/.wave format.

The same reason they got the NFL license - so no one else (especially some company that makes amazing games) can have it. I think DC once had the explanation on his signature...Didn't you DC?

Well EA's goal as a company...It buy other franchises out...And make a completely worthless game. By worthless I mean not taking advantage of anything they can utilize.

I'm sure for most people this kind of stuff is a minor issue but more me, it can add a great deal. Would have loved 2K to persist with some kind of licensed presentation, (would have been incredible to pair the 2K game with TNT presentation, but I think the Sony franchise has been using that?).

I think 2K could really do something special in this department. After watching the Madden 10 clips on half-time reports, I YouTubed NFL 2K5 and in my opinion, that ESPN half-time report was LIGHT YEARS ahead of what EA is producing in Madden 10).

I like the fact that 2K devotes its time and resources to refining the on-court action, but I think it's about time that they take presentation to another level of authenticity.

As for EA, the Madden guys have alluded to (if not outright said) that it's because of the NFL Network. They can't show favoritism towards either network. That's why we have the EA Sports Network stuff.

And for 2K, I'd love to see some real network presentation, but TNT would get my vote. Obviously they're with Sony's basketball game, but is that game dead now or just "on hiatus" or something?

The reason EA Sports doesn't use official ESPN presentation styles is due to EA Sports being a competing brand name. They want to push the EA Sports brand beyond video games. I remember that question around the time they first announced the ESPN partnership.

“If we look at this connected world we’re entering, sports is a sort of social and cultural glue that reaches across the globe. There is an opportunity for EA Sports to evolve beyond a games brand to become a true global sports and entertainment brand, and I think we can compete there.”

I don't think there are any more plans to integrate an ESPN style presentation within Live. The better option would be to have ESPN sponsored games of the week that you could play with ESPN overlays and presentation, either online or during a season/dynasty.

Live 10's presentation is looking like espn/abc. When they flash the team logos on the screen it looks a lot like what you would see on a Sunday on ABC
