Help Me Pick a Team
I am looking for a team that can push for the playoffs year 1, but also has some nice young prospects for the future. Also, if the team has a bad year (with high expectations) I can blow up the team for the future.

Re: Help Me Pick a Team
the Thunder were my choice when looking for the same thing in a team before starting an association.
Um, if you're really looking more to the future, but would like to at least try for the playoffs, maybe you could consider the Clippers or Bulls. and maybe make a deal (if you're the Bulls) for McGrady. (which I think the real Bulls should do)

Re: Help Me Pick a Team
I love the Grizzlies...
In my association, I actually traded Mayo to Chicago for Rose and packaged Connelly and Randolph for A'mare. Those two transactions quickly built a nice "Big 3" (Rose, Gay, Stoudamire). I manuevered several small trades to fill out a rotation that fits my style of play...Comment

I'm guessing your style of play is up tempo? (which with those 3, would be a great style to run)
But, to the original poster, if you do take the Grizzlies, the would be a great team to use even without making trades. Mayo, Randolph, and Gay present you with a solid big 3, and Conley and Gasol rounding out the starting 5 is a great line up. So, I'd say either them, the Clippers, or the Bulls.

Re: Help Me Pick a Team
I just started one with the Bulls and they have a good young team with potential but they really aren't clear contenders because of their lack of offense. I mean D. Rose can go off on teams but he needs some real backup so I will be looking for a good trade soon.
I guess I'll look at T-Mac too but personally I'm always looking for younger guys. Bulls are a good choice though, because you can swing games playing the right type of defense with them.Comment

Re: Help Me Pick a Team
Well I can tell you from both an in-game and real life perspective that the Hawks are a great team with a lot of future potential.
You have the underated superstar in Joe Johnson to lead your team for years to come. You have the up and coming flashy dunker in Josh Smith. Add those two in with players like Bibby, Teague (the future starting PG for the Hawks), and your under the basket menace in Horford and you are set.
They can however be a hard team to win with if one of your stars has a cold streak. I know in my association there was a time where I was averaging like 10 points a game with Johnson / Josh Smith. This put so much stress on posting up with Horford that I just couldn't win games.
But when that team gets rollin it is a force to be reckoned with. Athleticism is just tremendous on the Hawks. You've got multiple players who can guard the best players at multiple positions. hawks are a hard team to create mismatches on which is the main reason I love playing defense with them.Comment

Re: Help Me Pick a Team
Well I too am in the same situation you are on deciding a new team for association. I'm sort of tired of forcing myself to pick weaker teams to rebuild. There's always a chance of a good team failing especially do to injury. I like the idea of the Hawks, but other teams to consider could be Miami, Portland, Denver, Phoenix, Utah.
With the Heat, you obviously have D-Wade, you have some young players in Chalmers, Cook, and Wright that you can develop into good role players. You have a huge expiring contract in O'Neal. With Portland I love playing with Brandon Roy, his mid range game is really smooth and I have a ton of fun taking him to the rim too. Aldridge is a very nice scorer and you have Webster for your 3's. All they are lacking is that big man and a true PG. You have an abudance of PGs though, with Miller, Blake, Bayless, and Mills. A lot of trade bait and Outlaw too.
Denver I feel is one piece away of a championship. You obviously again have Melo. If you use JR Smith correctly he can just straight out dominate or if you don't like him you can trade him away. They have Chauncey and upcoming Ty Lawson who can hit 3's. I never used them but you also have Birdman down low and Nene who always seems to torch me. K-Mart needs to be used properly. Phoenix can really utilize the pick and role you like and they have a bunch of 3 point shooters. The center Frye can be moved out to the arc which frees the lane for Amare and Nash can find anybody. J-Rich is still nasty if you use him right. Along with Jaren Dudley's 3 point rating and you can develop Robin Lopez. Utah has the 2nd best PG in the league. Boozer who you can abuse with and possibly trade and continuing to develop Paul Millsap. Your option with Okur he can hit 3's and be huge for you. Brewer is a good defender, and Wes Matthews can be a nice role player to develop. You can probably trade for a scoring SG/SF can be set.
I'm still trying to decide too haha.Comment

Re: Help Me Pick a Team
Based on what I read about how you like to try to utilize the pick and roll, I'd say the Bulls still. Tyrus Thomas and Taj Gibson have decent enough mid range games, that they can get the ball off the screen and hit the 15 to 18 footer. Rose can keep it and take it to the basket, or if you want to roll to the hoop, Thomas and Gibson (and Noah) are very athletic and could be very good in that pick and roll game.
Also, Hinrich, Deng, and Salmons are pretty good outside shooters. And if Hinrich is at the point, he can come around screens and drop jumpers.Last edited by st0rmb11; 01-16-2010, 09:49 PM.

Re: Help Me Pick a Team
This is my dilemma though.
I've tried the Sixers, but I never can get Brand of Iggy going.
I've tried the Bulls and I can only consistently score with Rose. Everyone else is on/off, the frustrating way.
I've tried the Bucks and they have no scoring threats (to me)
I'm just not a fan of the Jazz.
I'm always about to start with with the Kings/ Knicks/ T'Wolves, but it's just one thing that drives me away from all of them.
The Blazers have too many role players/ guys that want playing time.
Warriors are just like the Blazers.
Most teams have to many players on them to my liking. I'm trying to find a 8-9 man rotation with 2-3 prospects and 1-2 bench warmers (MAX).

Re: Help Me Pick a Team
I too get bored with team with a lot of players requiring minutes because i am obsessed with my players having good stats, so i picked the Wizards, playing without Arenas and Critteton.
The rotation is relatively small, mine is
Mcgee/Haywood
Jamison/Blatche
Butler/Miller
Young/Miller
Foye/Boykins
everyone else is warming the bench, but most of them are expiring contracts to play with, you can blow the team up and focus on developing Young and Mcgee, or trade your picks and expiring for a star to try and win the ring.
I don't know why but i am planning on trading for Hasheem and building a Hasheem/Mcgee frontcourt, and i might go a head and do the Butler/Haywood/Miller for Tmac and loose change deal, which means more stats for my rotation players
Jamison is really fun to play with and i plan on keeping him, i play a fast tempo offense but the team can also play half court because guys like Foye, Jami, Butler and even Young can create their own shots, while Miller brings solid offense off the bench.
Mcgee is a beast and Blatche is unstoppable when he gets hot.Last edited by Mandry2010; 01-16-2010, 09:22 PM.Comment

Re: Help Me Pick a Team
I hear you dude. I always seem to narrow it down to around 3 teams but sometimes I just stray away from them. I tried the Sixers once but I honestly liked Iggy and couldn't do much with anybody else. I feel like the hardest part sometimes is just picking a team you want. I currently just started with the Magic. It seems when I can hit 3's I just really struggle, especially when I get Dwight into foul trouble.Comment
