Breaking the defender of the dribble (Please Help!)

Hello let me start by saying I've been playing 2K basketball since Dreamcast. There's one thing I'm really having problems with this year though. I cannot beat my defender 1 on 1 even when I have a great dribbler like Rajon Rondo. Everytime I think I get a step the defender slides over. Also when driving to the hoop and I have a lane the computer magically slides under my shooter and I do some weird jumpshot (hate that animation.)

Any help would be much appreciated! Also I have practiced a ton. Should I got to the automatic button dribble? Is there a slider that can help this?

    Thanks in advance

While using turbo, tap LT and your guys should do a slight hesitation and blow by your defender if he is quick enough, and your defender is not a lock-down defender (like Rondo)

wow......if anything I always felt as though it was way too easy to break the cpu ankles. And when you use the alt controller settings, it is even 10 times easier.

Me too, I've always thought that whenever I attacked the basket against the CPU, that i was a cheap move.

hey dude, i have a few tips for you. Actually one big tip that has pretty much changed the entire way i play the game. I used to use that hesitation dribble only and rely on that to get me past defenders. The key is to use the double crossover, crossover, 360 spin, behind the back dribble etc. All of these can be done by holding down LT (left trigger on 360) and rotating the left analog in certain directions. Also some of them are done by holding both triggers (i believe the fake crossover and behind the back). I think there is a tutorial actually in the game that will show you how to do all of em. Now that I can do the double crossover and quick crossover my whole game has changed. I used to rely on the iso-motion or whatever it is. I only use the left analog to beat most defenders.

And yes, relying on LT to blow by and be your main offensive weapon can be cheap.

However, when it's clutch time, and I have Derrick Rose, you better bet I'm going to try to get to the basket with it.

I don't think it's cheap. If its part of the game then you should use it. With a player like Rose, the cross over and behind the back dribble are invaluable moves.

Agreed, but it is really easy, because the defenders completely open their hips and give you an easy lane.

Well, I very rarely use the hesitation move unless I am trying to set up a crossover. I like watching the defender get crossed up so bad they go off to the slide while I drive by on the opposite side. Have you ever seen the Top 10 uploaded videos on 2ksports.com? True, especially when the game's on the line. I can do some pretty sick stuff with Nate the Great.

yea... I had nate when I started my knicks franchise then traded him away with a 1st round pick to the Kings for Tyreke Evans. There is nothing better than watching your defender get juked out of his socks. I saw a video of a defender actually tripping over his own feet in 2k10. I wanna pull that off so bad!! Its only possible if you know how to do the crossovers, spine moves and behind the back dribble. I used to rely solely on the hesitation move to get past defender, but not anymore!!

If you did that....vs me....Probably be a blowout. Hesitation doesn't work like it use to....I usually get charges if my opponent tired that move too many times. I just played someone the other night that kept doing the spin move....lol after while I would just back up....I had 3 steals in a row....ended the game on a 20-0 run...lol

Chaining moves together is the key.

it really depends on what spin move they used. If using the Y button while holding turbo (i think that is how its done) then yes it causes way too many charging violations. But if done with the LT and RT while rotating the analog then it doesn't.

Most effective moves are the double crossover and the behind the back dribble. I have made the cpu fall flat on the ground like they got shot with the behind the back move.
