    Differences between 2k9 and 2k10??

    Hey guys

Simple question really. I have NBA2k9 on PS3 and I have NBA LIVE 10 on 360. Well I went away from 2k this year because the control on 2k9 drove me up the wall. The herky jerky movements of 2k9 just was such a eye sore.

Well I started playing both NBA Live 10 and NBA 2k9. Not to make this thread into a 2k/EA thing. But I think each titles does certain things well.

I briefly went over the impressions thread but it is hard to find the answer to this question.

What is different between 2k9 and 2k10??? Thanks a lot guys and try to be descriptive.

IMO, you're not going to be able to choose just one. Live does some things really well (player moves/control), and 2k10 (better CPU AI, commentary) does others really well. A common consensus is that the best of these 2 would make the greatest bball game ever.

2k10 has a lot of bugs in Association mode (which is my main focus). I was upset about this year's game, so I bought 2k9 again thinking I would be happy. But, even with it's bugs, I've gone back to 2k10. For one, the defense IMO is much better. Secondly, court spacing is better than it's ever been. For those 2 reasons alone, I'm sticking with 2k10.

I think Gamestop is now selling 2k10 for under $40 now, and you could probably find it even cheaper on ebay.

Just hoping (don't we always) that next year's edition will have the bugs ironed out instead of adding 15 new things.

      Hope this helps.

stick with 2k9 that way u wont be dissapointed
what they did wih 2k10 is lower ballhandling, quickness and vertical abilty of the players to make the game look a little better
but all it does is make the gameplay worst
        everything is out of place

        e.g lowering of these sliders

        1) it it delays user contested shots so ur always late contesting a shot
        2) makes the user shots look fake and it takes the control out of ur hands when sooting leading u to hope of making a basket

if anyone reading this own 2k10 try bump up ballhandling, quickness and vertical skills to 100 and i guarantee it will play 90% like 2k9
but the downfall is that they dnt have player speed sliders to lower the speed of players

my point is tat 2k9 is better

2K10 is miles ahead of 2K9 gameplay wise man.

2K10 resembles the NBA closer than any game period. The draw and kick game and defensive rotations are pretty good in NBA2K10....it's non existant in 2K9. It's impossible to get the CPU in 2K9 to score in realistic ways while in 2K10 the right slider and coaching profile set will get you pretty close to what you see on TV.

It takes awhile to get used to the controls of NBA2K10 coming from Live 10 or NBA2K9...which is why it tends to get a bad rap. If you play it long enough however, the controls will become second nature. They're not perfect, but it's alot better than 2K9.

Re: Differences between 2k9 and 2k10??

I was skeptical of getting 2k10, I was playing Live since release.

I decided to give it a shot when I switched systems, and Im glad I did.

Its not quite as "hands on" as Live in my opinion. In Live I really feel in control of everything that I am doing, but Im not quite there with 2k yet.

As far as comparing it with 2k9, I think its a marked improvement.

The CPU plays more "sim" then in 2k9. The CPU tries to beat you playing legit basketball, as opposed to trying to shaft you with a broomstick, with back door laser cuts, when the shot clock goes under 10.

There's better defensive rotation on double teams, you can actually generate a transition game vs the CPU, and you cant just mindlesly turbo, quite as much.

The court doesnt seem as cluttered, better spacing..but not up Live's IMO.

manual defense is more challenging, which I think is a positive as well...and I absolutely love "The Association" layout.

2k10 have upgraded the advance part of the gameplay but the basics are horrible
its like putting expensive rims on a car that has a broken engine
              just to impress ppl
i am not a 2k ***** i love 2k but im just very dissapointed that 2k forget about basic gameplay nad focus on presentation and advance gameplay
im sry but u cant jump to fix 5 if 1,2,3 and 4 avent bin fix
              get it right 2k
and if no one believe me go and check on gamerankings.com and look at the critcs rating on 2k9 and 2k10

If you think the controls in 2K9 are bad, herky and jerky, save your money. 2K10 is a LOT worse in my opinion. Rent it at the very most. Heck, just try the demo and feel the jerkiness of the movement there.

nice to have someone with sense who agree that 2k9 has better gameplay
i'll give 2k10 the win on presentation but who cares about that when gameplay doesnt make any sense
if devs cant get it right maybe they need to drop the price cause we are tired of wastin 60 bucks on presentation

Ok cool. So the improvements (if any) are small.

I like both LIVE 10 and 2k9. I just did not want to shell out more money on 2k10 if the improvements are only SMALL. If thats the case I will stick with 2k9 for my singleplayer franchise and LIVE has been my online B-ball game.

Let me clarify my opinion on both games.

2K8 was really good. It was the best B-ball game I'd played since Live 99. I'm a player-lock player, so 2K8 had the small issue of not displaying the play diagram on the court unless you controlled the player with the ball.

2K9 fixed this and a couple of other small items. 2K9 had a bit more clunky control than 2K8, but was still very playable and enjoyable.

2K10 had a ton of potential. My Player was the best thing a Player Lock player could dream about and it was coming. Unfortunately, the lack of options (sliders, minute adjustments, etc) really hurt the potential of that mode. Mostly the killer of the game for me was the controls. Too often I find my player wanting to move by himself, crouch down and defend a player I don't want him to, response is very clunky and the player just doesn't move the way I want him to, and this results in me getting burned on defense like crazy. Go ahead and say I suck at the game. I do, but my excuse is because I don't like the controls. Oh, and I did reduce the defense assist slider. That's not good enough.

It really is a shame because I love the ball movement/AI in 2K10. It's the best I've seen. You cut to the basket for an open layup and they'll try to hit you with the pass. On a double team in the post, leaving you wide open for the jumper, your teammates will throw that pass to you like they should.

If the control and player responsiveness was at least as good as in 2K9, and sliders were available for My Player, I would say that 2K10 is the best B-ball game I've played. But the controls are so slippery that I can't say that at all, not even close.

Phobia, are you not in a position where you can rent it? Because here's the thing - I believe you'll know in the first 5 minutes of playing a quick game whether or not you like the gameplay better than 2k9.

My son, who is 11, is a big fan of 2k9, so we still play that a lot. When we finish, I'll play 2k10 by myself, and to me the gameplay is tighter, the defense is better (the reasons my son doesn't like it
). The overall movement still sucks (compared to Live), but I don't know that it's any worse than 2k9.

I'd say rent it at Blockbuster or get it through Gamefly - don't drop the $40 until after you try it.
