    NBA 2K11 - Lets Talk Playbook Improvements

    Play-Calling:

    -Most plays take too long to finish.

    -Plays get cut off for no reason.

    -Certain plays are unrealistic and never would be used. Get rid of them.

    -Plays should have more than 1 option. Should be able to throw ball to 3-4 options. Ex. PG can pass to SG/SF/PF/C. Whomever you pass, again have 3+ options. Play constantly changes so keeps game fresh.

    Will make playing against CPU unpredictable. Especially in 2K10 when knowing certain play CPU always throws to certain spot and easily get steal.

    Will encourage users to run plays as it constantly changes/evolves depending on who you pass to and where you are on court. If CPU or online user is playing tight in one area, you can pass to another area so play can continue to be run.

    -Would be nice if authentic plays can be implemented specifically to that particular team. Although if I can choose only one, rather pick where whichever person you pass to, play constantly changes as described above.

    If there was one area that I'm sure they need to improve, this is it.

    Play calling has been tweaked ever year but it's time for an entirely new system.

      I would just like to see set systems for coaches/teams. Where you can just dribble down the court, have the players set-up in their set spots on the floor, have a dribble or pass entry and run a play based on your 1st action.

      i.e. Suns running up tempo with a middle pick and roll out of the fastbreak with the wings running dead corner. Sort of the same for the Magic.

      Celtics running a horns offense and setting screens left and right, etc etc.

        I wonder if they can just ask the NBA coaches for the plays the teams run. Every team knows what plays every other team has anyway.

            The problem with authentic plays is after some time, you get used to what the CPU will do and the game will become predictable. Unless 2K can also implement passing to more than one option(like in real NBA) then I would be all for it.

            I just don't see that happening. I see 2K taking authentic plays but can only pass to one specific place for the play to continue to be run. In real life there are always at least 2-3 options to pass to depending on how the defense is being played.

            Also for 2K11, a Create-A-Play feature should be added. Would make it really cool! Just make sure that you can pass to at least 2-3 different players for the play to continue to run.

              I agree about the Create a play

              With CH2K8 it was great, but if they could expand it to include options as mentioned. NCAA Basketball had it right with having Princeton, DDM, Flex, etc and combining specific sets with plays that include options would make the game great for people that love the strategy behind the game.

                This is what I'm advocating for. Teams rarely run diagrammed plays to a tee. I thought EA NCAA College Basketball 10 had a very innovated idea of implementing this. Too bad the game itself was crappy.

                  My thoughts too. What I would like to see (a dumbed down version) in case anyone is reading from 2K

                  If you have 4 guys playing on the perimeter (2 in the corners and 2 in the slot with the big man weak side low post). The ball is dribbled towards the strongside corner, the corner man has 2 options which he makes; go backdoor or run around for a dribble hand-off. Where the other players would make a read about what happens between the two.

                  If ball is dribbled to the opposite side, their are a set of rules players follow. A pass.. same thing.

                    sorry to post a live video here, but it is the czar. 2k11 really needs playcalling like Live. It's so easy, and I actually like calling plays in Live and NCAA Bball 10. I dont get 5 seconds call, and they just make it simpler.

                      After further thinking 2K should not implement authentic plays. Rather what I said above which is you have 3-4 options depending on where you pass the ball.

                      The reason is because when playing Association/MyPlayer after the 1st season, there will be players change/possible coaching changes down the road.

                      I don't want to continue to run the same offense in future seasons when the players do not fit that system and coaches may not run them(if the coach before got fired in 2K).

                      The way mine works is through tendencies. For example a big man like Channing Frye, he likes to shoot 3's so in 2K he roams around the perimeter more hardly looking to post up. A post-up player like Gasol is more in the paint area constantly looking for back-down opportunities.

                      Obviously these two also set picks as well. But with tendencies in effect you can really tell how different big man plays and the CPU will replicate those players in the game. So players/coaching change will not have any effect because they play mainly by tendencies.

                        I want a very realistic and vast playbook with branching options. But i would settle for A new create a play mode. Or at the very least make the playbooks from College Hoops transferable.

                          I wish we had plays where one player runs back and forth around screens trying to lose his man. Not those set plays where the player ends up on the same side every single time.

                          edit: and let us flip plays...CPU does it all the time.

                              2K needs to copy teh playcalling system EA used in Live 09 that was one of the best playcalling systems I had ever seen.

                              Was very easy to use and really encouraged the player to use it b/c it had multiple options in every play.

                              I actually hope EA brings that system back for Elite..
