Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I was just curious. If I remember correctly, 2k has had nicknames for their created players in there for years as a selectable option when u make one. But after u create your player, has the nickname ever been used for anything in the game? I can't recall ever hearing a commentator say it, or seeing it in a headline for league news, or anywhere else for that matter. I mean it would be cool to occasionally hear it referenced, but if not, why is it there?

Nope sorry bud, nicknames were said during games. Unfortunately they were so bad it made the commentary cheesy.

Did u know that if ur real name was i in the list, the announcer would also say ur name. I named my character "John Ray" to make it a lil more realistic.

I downloaded Arvidas Sabonis for PC and since Sabonis wasn't in the pronouncable database, the commentators used the nickname someone had give him "The Monster"

They really just need to put in a text to speech generator for created players (in all games). I don't care if you butcher my last name just say it instead of some corny nickname.

It's the choice for those sad players like me that the game doesn't recognize my last name (Ellsworth please developers!!) So we get to choose to be called something dumb or something dumb. I should just legally change my name to "Number forty-two"Comment

The problem with the nicknames for created players was there was no alternations in commentary. If you were the "The Magician" you were "The Magician".
Luckily for me my name is Shelby (in this example anyway) so my "Cobra" nickname worked vedy niiice.Comment

My nickname in real life is Domz. I used the nickname "The Doom" for My Player. lol

Wasn't a big fan of the nicknames so I left it as is and since they don't have my last name in the game I was called by my number. I know they won't have it this year as well which is so disappointing for me....:-( Lol.Greatest Franchise Ever

no it was added new with the my player mode last year. i remember the old dreamcast versions having nicknames but i think those were just for current players and legends.
it would be nice if they gave an option for the pronunciation of you name to be selectable separate from the actual spelling. example if your name is spelled micheal like former pacers/wolves guard but is pronounced like regular michael and not mikale. so if your name sounds similar to a name currently in the database it will sound close but your name would still be displayed with the correct spelling.Comment

What happens if a player has his first name in the database and not his last, does the commentators pronnounce his first only or do they just ommit it as the second is not recognized and the AI sees it as a whole ?Comment
