Re: Should 2K Buy the Exclusive Rights for NBA 2K12?
If I know this community, and I like to think that I do, I would bet the answer to this query will be overwhelmingly, "NO!".
I do not see a reason to make the rights exclusive, even if they had the means to make such a move. Just like every post in this thread will say, with competition, everybody wins. We have all seen firsthand what happens when one company has exclusive rights with sports titles.Comment

Nope. And I hope the NBA is smart enough not to sell it to either. Competition is the only way we got what we got from 2k this year. 2k was probably worried about Live making a significant stride after what Live did last year. I just hope Elite doesn't have a bad enough showing this year that they take next year off or scrap the franchise like they did with college basketball. Both companies need to push each other.Does a cheetah stretch before it chases its prey?

NO NO an NO. what makes these games so much better is competition. 2k needs competition. Look at all the things they are doing this year. I think part of that is because of MJ being on the cover, but also because of everything Live/Elite is doing with their RTP. And plus, 2k doesnt need to waste so much money.Comment

I would say "No", but I have a bad feeling about the NBA rights...I'm pretty sure 2K isn't the one who's going to buy it...My Specs:

CPU: Z80 @ 3.5 MHz
GPU: Monochrome display
RAM: 48 KB
OS: Sinclair BASICComment

No thanks, like everyone else already stated this would be a bad thing. Competition brings out the best in the product. Look at the MLB2k series and Madden, no good comes from exclusive rights.
And if there was a bidding war for the NBA rights, EA has the financial advantage and would be able to spend a lot more than 2k so we'd end up with the Elite series for the next 5 years or so.Comment

Re: Should 2K Buy the Exclusive Rights for NBA 2K12?
Definitely not. The only thing that comes out of exclusive league deals like that are worse games! MLB 2k got worse without the competition of MVP and All Star Baseball. Madden got worse without the competition of games like ESPN 2k5. The competition that other games producing a similar product creates forces each game to better itself. 2K saw how good NBA live was getting last year, so they upped it again and have created what looks to be an amazing game this year! Without the drive to be better than competitors, even a great franchise like 2K basketball could only get worse. I would hope that no more exclusive deals would ever happen for any sport.76ers '55 '67 '83
