Shot comes up short = late release
Shot is long = early release

Sounds like lag is messing with your timing. Might take awhile to adjust.

    EDIT: 2K11 dev blog/article
We’ve tied the ball physics to your release timing as an additional timing feedback tool. So if you release early, your shot will go long… if you hold too long, your shot will be all arms and miss short.

Going back and forth between online and offline can be tricky. I wish we could shootaround before every online game for about :20 or so. Correlating ball physics to shot release is a good step forward.

Also I wouldn't mind if when we take timeouts and at the half we could get a breakdown of our shot release for the game kinda like in the VIP. i.e. 10% bad early, 40% slightly early, etc...

man u r right. i tried to release early and it s much better. but how can it be enjoyable if i release early.it s horrible. u can sense the lag in the menus also.

Man those are so good ideas that should be added to the halftime or player spotlight showing that the player's in the zone not only taking good open shots but that the timing is on point, and could be offline also.
But there should be no lag in the first place it's not acceptable offline and online shot timing should be the same. Hiccups in the action is one thing but a constant delay in timing is crazy and absolutely unacceptable.

              Peace

It's something you just have to get used to.

Best way to tell how much delay you're getting is on FT attempts.

Try to get to the line early, get a feel for the delay if there's much at all, then adjust accordingly.

Hopefully you're on 360 so you can get a fair share of games that feel close to delay free, I've yet to see one even close on PSN in previous 2k games.
