What happened to the dunk contest???

One of the small issues I already found with the game. Sure it wasn't great to begin with, but I still had fun with it. This new 2 player dunk off for 90 seconds just doesn't do it though. I was hoping for at least the option to play the old way...but I guess not.

Also had a few questions about the game.

I heard PS3 had custom soundtracks, but I'm not seeing the option. Hoping they didn't just mean editing the arena sounds. Any help?

For ranked online games, what will the play style be? Default or sim?

For those that have had the game a few days, is your number of turnovers decreasing? When I started up with the Jordan intro, I had like 10 stolen passes in the first quarter because this feels so different from 2K10. I'm a little worried because not all of them were bad passes on my part. A few times I just tried to dish off to my SG and someone jumped in front of it for the steal.

yea i never payed attention to it but thought with mj and kemp and other it would be fun this year.

I like the contest now. Before there were too many dunks per round and too many rounds and it is hard to get different dunks off every time because you want to spend more time playing the actual game instead of doing dunks from 20 feet out. Now that you just have a little dunk off, much less time consuming and easy trophy!

Why couldn't we have the old version and the new version.? THe new version sucks IMHO especially since I use to play with 3 of my friend on the old version.

This new one is a disgrace.
What were they thinking? The controls were so unresponsive too. Not even a practice mode anymore.

The majority of people were bashing the dunk contest saying it was a waste of disc space and things like that when we had it for years and now that they removed it people are complaining.


Where were you guys when this was being discussed year after year after year after year?

The "majority" were usually Association heads. Every anyone tries to bash blacktop on here I post to defend it.

I've got to say... I am completely disappointed about what happened to the dunk contest. I was hoping for the same format but being able to choose different locations. Then adding different types of dunks. Using new obstacles, using other players as props. I used to play dunk contest with a friend on 2k10 and it was fun. Calling out the score of the dunk before it's shown to see if you can get it right on. We both got the dunking down somewhat quickly then the games got more competitive and scores were always high. The way we played, the third round was the only round where you could use obstacles. It was basically bragging rights and winner of the dunk contest wins home court advantage when the actual basketball games started.

All of that is gone. Split screen disaster. Dunk Contest is horrible on 2k11 and that is a shame because it was one of the features I was looking forward to the most. Even if it was left alone then it would be alright. Not good.

Me and my friends love the blacktop mode, but sadly it appears gutted from last year's game.

I had two very correctable issues with the Dunk Contest over the years:

1) I would have liked for the contest to be moved into an arena for All-Star Weekend. When I see previews for All-Star Weekend during my Association, the schedule says "Friday: Rookie Game, Saturday: Dunk Contest, Sunday: All-Star Game". It'd be sweet if that were actually true in the game.

2) I would have liked an option to shorten the old contest. The old version was too long and the new version is much too short and unsightly (I struggle to adjust to the split screen). I also can't think of what type of dunk I want to complete in quick enough time to compete with my opponent.

I would have enjoyed the old contest at least twice as much if we had the ability to, say, only play one round at a time. Having to dunk three times, eliminate, dunk three times, eliminate, and then dunk three times was usually a little much.

Very good suggestions. I'm new the series so I didn't play last years version but I know this year that I was just a little dissapointed that there is no Dunk contest during All-Star weekend.

Blacktop mode used to be a nice change of pace...but it's so stripped down now, that it's worthless.

I remember when u could choose which city you played in (and even whether or not you wanted to play during the daytime or night...and even weather conditions). You used to be able to do "streetball" moves as well.

As far as the dunk contest, you used to be able to choose any dunker rated above 80, and it was just better. Even the graphics got worse. I don't even touch it now.

2k5 had that 24/7 mode with all those insane challenges. If they brought that back instead of blacktop mode I'd be a happy camper.
