Just started playing online finally - wow

after playing the CPU for a while to get a feel for the game, i finally decided to go online now that i feel confident in my abilities....and online is not good.

the lag is bad enough that it delays your controller input by about 2 seconds...this makes it impossible to play defense because when you move the left stick to cut of your man, your player doesn't move for until 2 seconds later, and by then your opponent is already dunking it. the lag affects every aspect of the controls, which makes contesting shots impossible as well because your man takes so long to jump..by the time your man begins to contest the shot, the shot is already halfway to the rim.

not to mention the online settings allow massive ammounts of cheesing (easy dunks in the paint, heavily contested shots going in left and right...it's not uncommon to see shooting percentages ranging from 65-70 percent because so many cheese shots go in).

i don't know if i even want to bother with online at this point. it's pretty bad

Are you sure it's not your connection? Yeah there's shot lag bug the actual speed isn't bad at all.

i'm pretty sure my connection is fine...in the lobbies my "ping" shows up as fully green.

maybe if you're used to the lag it doesn't seem as bad, but after playing the CPU for the past few weeks and then going to online, the lag is very noticeable and is bad enough to affect your ability to play.

It's tough to transition back and forth between offline and online but just as you learned everyones shot releases online you will learn there releases online the more you play. It takes a little bit to adjust. Also defense is about anticipating your opponents moves before they do it. It's a learning curve but the more you play the funner it gets. I hated my first game online but love it now! Play a few more games and then make your assesment... There is nothing like playing a online opponent in a sim league! I stay away from ranked games PERIOD!

Also having your game downloaded and run through your xbox helps with lag.

The 2 second lag statement is a complete fabrication, there is a delay but maybe 0.2 seconds maybe, now if its more then that you have a bad connection.

this is not true. the lag online really only affects the shot and that is only maybe 0.2 seconds not 2 seconds. if you are experiencing that much lag it has to be your connection

I agree with you OP, but you just have to adjust to it and realize lag varies from game to game. Dont shoot alot of 3's because you'll go cold fast.

Online, the dunking is worse thank 2k9 ever was and here is proof.

The inability to interrupt the spin dunk animations is the most annoying part of online right now.

Although you exaggerated a bit, i do agree. The unstoppable dunk and bump animations going out of bounds are a little out of control. I'm also having issues with leadpassing right behind a defender, anybody have tips for intercepting passes to the big men?

The control lag is big though, really hurts with penetraters like Rondo too

My only problem with online is the accuracy of full court passes, lead passing, and dunks in traffic.

I don't have a problem with the controls or anything like that, feel the same to me. The jumpers have a slight delay but like previously mentioned it will take a game or two to get acclimated.

Its tough trying to beat people shooting Jumpers with Westbrook, Green, Durant and company when they're just lead passing for dunks or throwing full court passes for dunks or go cheese mode with an elite player and dunk over everyone.

My issue is the fact that PGs who can't dunk are useless online. I honestly can't even drive with Jennings, which is his specialty, because it is just going to be blocked by people who aren't even close to the basket.

I'm glad I'm not the only one getting pissed about the controller input lag. Makes it pretty much to stay in front of your man, forcing me to play off-ball which makes me feel like I'm cheesing.

Definitely agree with the dude above me about short point guards being useless online. I had Aaron Brooks ahead on the break about 2-3 feet ahead of anyone and since I had to take a slow layup (I'm saying the layup animations slow you down soooo much while dunks actually keep you in stride) instead of a dunk, the dude behind him caught up and was able to force me into a contest animation when I should have been able to EASILY lay it in. Ridiculous.
