Why did they even give us the option to play less qtr length minutes?

Posted this in the slider forum, but feel like I should post in here as well and maybe I could get some help.

Why does 2k even give us the option to play anything less than 10min qtrs?

You seriously can't get good results/stats at 9min or less. Heck I can't even do it on 10min and I'm trying sooo hard to changing everything I can think of! Really kinda pisses me off that such a good game has to be played at 12min. I can do a 9 inning game in MLB 10 with no problems for some reason I just can't do the 12min qtrs. Game feels extremelyyyy slow now after the patch What a great game this is, but feel like I'm wasting my time playing cuz I just can't wait 12min qtrs. Even saving midway through doesn't help. Game just feels too slow overall and drawn out.

Maybe they could have the sliders automatically adjust for you as you lower the minutes, that would be sweet! Please 2k, next year make this game where it's possible to play AT MOST 10min qtrs and get good stats!!!

If there is Anyone out there playing 10min or less and getting good results PM me and tell me what u are doing. I'll do anything at this point!

more options = better. I would also venture to guess that the OS community is in the minority when it comes to caring about realistic stats.

Not everyone likes to take an hour or more to play a game.

Personally, I play 12 minute quarters, but some may think that is crazy talk.

I do too, but that is the sacrifice you have to make if you want real stats. Good thing 2k11 is so good, it makes me want to do that (I never had before)

I'm one of those guys that I can't take sitting for an hour or two playing one game. 7 minutes is plenty for me, sometimes that even feels long if the game isn't close.

12min qtrs takes longer than a hour to play. It's not even that that bothers me. Cuz like I said I can play MLB 10 and it takes a hour to finish the game. But there's no stopping in the game. What I mean is, there's no fouls, or timeouts in baseball. The flow of the game is continuously on a baseball video game. Real life baseball is very drawn out cuz there is timeouts, mound visits etc that prolong the game. But that all can be skipped thru easily on the game.

In this game, while yes you can skip thru timeouts. you can't simulate the fouls and ft's that take place when the clock is stopped. Clock stops under 2min of each each qtr as well after made basket. Again, more things that slow the game down.

I'm just asking to play 10min at most! I'm determined to keep playing at 10min until I find something that works. Even if I have to put game speed at 100, and teams shooting the ball with 10-15sec left on the shot clock lol.

While more options=better game, and I agree...there needs to be a balance however where we get realistic stats with leass minutes. Look at Madden for example...We don't have to play 15min qtrs to get sim stats(Now I didn't buy Madden 11, so going off Madden 10), but with the 15-25sec playclock run off allows us to play longer qtrs and still get good results. NBA 2k needs something that allows us to play lesser minutes and achieve sim results.

7min? What are your final scores, high 60s at most??

Re: Why did they even give us the option to play less qtr length minutes?

Here's my whole point. You're going to play 10 minutes, are you *really* going to tell me that you don't have an additional 15 minutes (about what it would take to play the additional 8 minutes) to spare when you already setting up for a 40 minute game that will take 55 with stoppages, replays, etc?

Seriously, this is why they give the option to SIMULATE games, simulate to the END of games, save in the MIDDLE of a game, and play seasons of shorter length than 82 games.

MOST of this community wants a simulation experience. We finally get one where we get REAL NBA stats at REAL NBA time and people want to turn it back into an arcade game.

PS: Don't think I'm bitching at you, I'm not. Trust me that I understand time-constraints. But that have made so many options available to shorten seasons, games, and allow saving in the middle - while providing a REAL representation of the sport. But for us die-hards who just want a REAL SPORTS EXPERIENCE when we play, the fact that we can finally play real NBA basketball is what we've been asking for - for the better part of a decade.

Re: Why did they even give us the option to play less qtr length minutes?

Also, there's really no way to give an accurate representation of the sport at lesser game speeds, not if you want true realism. Let's just take the example of 8 minutes from 12 minutes. You have taken 16 minutes from the game (so 1.25 quarters of real play.)

Where do you expect to reproduce these missing FGA, FTA from players not getting into foul trouble?

Now, since I'm a critic, I will provide what I feel to be the only feasible solution for players like yourself who want the game faster. The game must run with a 12 minute clock, but similar to the hockey games - where if you are playing 10 minute periods, it runs at double the normal speed. You will also have to speed up the overall gameplay, and the shot clock must run at the same speed as the game clock.

That's the only feasible option. Have the following:

                  Minutes Played -10
Acceleration (this locks) - 2 minutes
Game Speed (this locks) - +2 "clicks"

Obviously it would need to go into a bit more detail and be fleshed out, but that's the only true solution to this issue while leaving the game alone for those of us that want to play real NBA ball.
I'm just an old guy sports gamer...

Re: Why did they even give us the option to play less qtr length minutes?

If this helps I play 9min qrts on All Star/default and my games are done
in 45 min which is ok. My scores are around 90pts to 65 pts depends on
how good the defense for both teams are. But if I change it to sim on
9min qrts good luck trying to score 70 pts. On default the AI shoot the
                    ball almost too good.

Like the OP wrote 12 min are too long and we should get some realistic
                    scores on 10 min qrts.

I'm rolling with 10 minute quarters but use a game speed of 54. I like the faster game play, 50 is playable but just seems a little slow. I run at 65 game speed and 55 player speed for College Hoops 2k8, so the i need the game speed a 54. The way I figured my game spped for Ncaa was by doing some research. I found that some of the fastest players in college could go free throw line to free throw line in around 3 seconds. Therefore I gave a player 99 speed and then went into practice and ran free throw line to free throw line adjusting the speed until I achieved that three second mark. I haven't done that for 2k11 but I will at some point, I'm just lacking time right now.

I understand what you are saying. And ya another 15-20min to play a game isn't horrible. But it's just the fact that the game itself moves too slow. Too much stopping and going that makes the game "feel" waaaay longer than about a hour and 20min that it actually takes to play a game. I turn replays off to help but it isn't enough.

I want options then to turn off "broadcast" type of presentation. Give me the "real time" presentation that MLB 10 gives us that helps speed up the game. They also give us the gameplay option to "fast" where its pitch after pitch really quick. No interruptions.

NBA 2k12 needs that same exact thing! Where I get no "tv type broadcast" presentation. Gameplay only. Nothing extra. No "Lets look at the standings in the east" Or, "Let's take a look at last years league leaders in steals" crap. Give me the option to not hear or see any of that and that itself will knock off 15-20min of time to finish a game. After a qtr ends, give me the option to not see a halftime show, and PLZ turn off the "Join us November 8th!" game stuff. All of these small things when put together are HUGE! And could easily knock off 15min at least of time to finish a game.

If you're going to add all the TV style presentation that's great. It looks pretty and is fun to watch. But after a while it grows stale and gets skipped thru like everything else. MLB 10 recogized this and gave us "real time" presentation along with "Fast" or no delay game style. NBA 2k needs to adopts the same thing, that's all I am really saying.

If I want sim stats I have to suck it up and play 12min, period. I can deal with that I guess. I just want some options to somehow speed the game up if I'm going to do that. I don't want to feel like I'm watching a game on tv, taking 2 hours to finish. That's where it seems sports games are going towards which is completely ridiculous imo.

I play 4 minute quarters. These games are fun and very quick. If I feel good I can get 4-5 in one sitting. I just can't sit still long enough to play a 12 minute game.

I agree, though. Please don't show me two peoples faces put together, it just looks weird.

as long as i have the option to make the cpu use the same minutes/game i do, i'm happy. i don't care how realistic my stats are, as long as the cpu's stats fall in line.
