How to defend successfully?

I just bought this game and it's great, but one thing is driving me crazy.

I'm using the sliders from the Sliders sub-forum and playing at All Star level.

I'm getting the hang of the offense, but defense just seems to be based on luck. I'm not buying on the fake dekes of the CPU and stay with them pretty well, IMO, but they just always seem to manage to get the perfect shot off. I'm playing an Association with the Knicks and let's say Felton is defending Ronjo. I stay with RR, but then he decides to drive to the basket -> score and most of the time he also gets a free throw to boot.

Or the CPU PG passes to the CPU PF/C, who turns around and sinks a clean shot. I'm getting killed on those shots, although, like said, I seem to stay with the CPU offense pretty good.

Any advice?

As simple as it sounds, I just try to stay in front of my man and anticipate his next move. I used to hold L2 like a MF'er in 2K10 so my man wouldn't be able to penetrate but that doesn't work this year. Also, when the AI drives on me I just try to bump him instead of always going for the block. Seems to work fine for now.

Just make contact by staying close

Learn when to use lock down D button. It's not the same with last year's game. It also relies on the defenders attributes and skills on D. A defender who has high quickness and on-ball defense is very likely to shut any man he's guarding.
