Pistol Pete, Chocolate Thunder and Sid the Squid Crack NBA 2K12’s Legendary Lineup

The boys at Kotaku have compiled a list of the 10 'hidden gems' in NBA Legends Mode. There are some good players which will be in the Legends mode but aren't technically (at least according to 2K) legends. Think about these names for a second: 'Pistol' Pete Maravich, Darryl Dawkins, Chris Mullin, Penny Hardaway, and Dell Curry (among many others). Missing on Kotaku's list are the guys who were in last year's game -- so don't forget about guys like Shawn Kemp, Dominique Wilkins, and John Starks either.

Simply put, the NBA Legends mode is a bit more stacked than the 15 legends which are billed as the main attraction.

"Thanks to last year's "Jordan Challenge", NBA 2K11 was able to sneak in George "The Iceman" Gervin, one of the ABA's all-time greatest gunslingers and, at the end of his career, a teammate of Jordan's on the 1986 Chicago Bulls. The same spirit pervades the selection of this year's supporting cast, offering a chance to play as some of the game's most electrifying performers, renowned specialists, and fan favorites.

So I've added another list of 10 hidden gems who should make the game worth picking up, especially for diehard fans."

Has it been stated if some of this years classic will be back for NBA2k12 example 85 bulls and 88 cavs? I hope the leave them and just added new ones.

Well-written and a really good read. Hopefully some of the misinformed growling about 2K's efforts will take time to understand how great a job they [seem to have done].

And how great bringing Legends to the game will be overall. I would think hardcore football or baseball fans would be going crazy to be able to pit legendary baseball or football teams and relive legendary games or just play the legends against their current counterparts.
HBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

i still feel that Pippen should be replaced with another old school player like Hayes or Unseld...more 70's or 80's players would've been nice...

Excellent article. They could have easily just re-hashed everything we learned from ESPN yesterday. But they didn't. I never considered Darryl Dawkins for the '89 Pistons. I wonder if he's surely included or just suspected of being included. Either way, this mode is going to be terribly, terribly deep in terms of the breadth of players it provides.

Very nice read, I can't wait to see what they've done with Pistol Pete's sigs. I hadn't heard that one on one story about Coop vs Kobe, that's good stuff.

Only mistake they made with Pippen imo is not putting him on the 2000 Blazers instead of Bulls or atleast put him on the 94 bulls(year with no Mike..Pippen was awesome that year)...That would have given him his own moment away from MJ.
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

                      Loved reading this

Yell Iverson all day long, I really appreciate 2k for doing this, and although I hope its not the last year... having these teams in the game like the 95 magic, pistol pete's hawks, etc..all of these things are along with the single game package is insanity!!

These guys are dream team devs. The best of both worlds

Too bad Chuck and Reggie let their fans down with their egos

Unrelated, but Pistol Pete died at my dad's church while playing basketball at the church gym. My dad was there but on the other half court.

I remember him saying years later that if I thought J-will was an awesome ball handler I should've seen Pistol Pete handle the rock.

How could this list not include Charles Barkley as a hidden gem? Won't he be considered a rookie in the Dr. J challenge since it's 84-85 Sixers?
