Bill Russell looks so angry...looks like Jeff Green in his 60's.

i'll have no idea how to play with a lot of these old guys (70s and earlier). we should get a scouting report thread going where we can talk about how to use em, or which current player they're closest to

+1 I didn't post about it, but I thought of reading up guys before I played with the classic teams as well. I'm young enough that I don't even know much about the guys in the mid 90's (except for the big names obviously) and it was the main reason I didn't play with them a lot in 2k11.

Russell went thru some tough experiences in Boston during that time. That's probably why 2k has him looking so ticked off.
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

Jerry West is a scoring machine. Pretty sure he can shoot from anywhere.

I think one of the Jones guys on Boston is a good shooter, maybe KC. Hondo's clutch rating will most likely be ridiculous and his stamina too (I read that he averaged almost 47 minutes per game in the playoffs a few times). Russell is a defensive god. And from what I've heard, Elgin Baylor was incredibly athletic for his time and was a great rebounder and good scorer.

One of the coolest things about classic teams in video games is their ability to teach people about players of year's past. It really makes the abilities and roles of classic players quite tangible. Obviously their abilities in a game are not to be taken as gospel, but it's still a tremendous way to familiarize gamers with some of the all-time greats, all while having an enjoyable experience.

Being a hockey fan (but less of a hockey fan than NBA fan) the classic teams in NHL 2K over the years didn't just teach me what I already knew about players such as Wayne Gretzky, Gordie Howe, and Brett Hull; they also taught me about other greats and unsung heroes that slip under the radar, such as Hakan Loob, Jari Kurri, Yvan Cournoyer, and Mike Bossy (yes I didn't know a lot about Mike Bossy). It's almost just as fun to come across the semi-random guys who are notable for other reasons nowadays, such as Tim Horton on the '63 Leafs or Wings color man Mickey Redmond on the '68 Canadians.

Similarly, it'll be great to play with legends within their actual team construct (i.e. not on an All-60's team) so we'll be able to get a feel for how skilled they were relative to their competition. Using Jerry West, Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain and Elgin Baylor is going to be incredible. However, I think again, it's also going to be fun to come across the next level of players - perhaps very skilled players we discover that never received a lot of publicity (Jerry Lucas), players standing under 5'4'' (Muggsy Bogues), or again, guys we know so well today for a particular role that differs from their past (Phil Jackson, Kenny Smith, Mike Dunleavy).

Also, I feel like Bill Simmons is going to be pumped about the inclusion of this guy:

didnt notice it to much till I saw other complaints and have to admit more stances would be a little less annoying.

Yeah. I'm not gonna complain if it stays like this in the game but it would make it more engaging if the poses were more varied.

Seems like every center in 2K12 became slick gangstas. Probably the result of the current lockout.
