    Coaches in NBA 2k12

I have read all the previews and dev insight and no one has mentioned anything about how the coaches will be handled.

For instance, Don Nelson quits during season, Keith Smart takes over. I use my own rosters and do not DL 2ks rosters so i never got the update that makes Keith the head coach. This should be something i can do manually. I would also like to be able to add Mark Jackson later as the coach.

Also another issue is someone like Phil Jackson. i know he is retired now but in 2k11 Phil had a contract of $10 Mil, which is the full staff budget during franchise mode. You basically are stuck with the CPU signing your staff for the Lakers until Phils contract is up. There should be an option to create Mike Brown and make him the coach.

One of the most annoying occurrences in franchise mode happens with my Chicago Bulls all the time. The Coach makes $3-4 Mill, but the scout (who is an F rated scout btw) makes $4Mill a year also. Handicapping me from signing a good staff until his contract runs out. Same thing happens in Portland (Nate McMillan makes $7Mill) and a few other teams i cant think of right now.

The most annoying aspect of all is not being able to promote or hire asst coaches as head coaches. The generic coaches are cool and all, but when you hire them, they all seem to look nothing like their profile pictures and tend to look exactly like the coach they replaced. I hired a guy for Jerry Sloan and his profile pic was a young guy, but during the game he looked exactly like Sloan.

Basically Im wondering if there was any changes to the coaches as far as being able to edit them like the system that college hoops had.

Nothing more upsetting than seeing a guy like Stan Van Gundy being rated as one of the best coaches when he is clearly terrible IMHO.

I don't know if Keith was that bad. The Warriors team is terribly put together. None of their pieces fit, the best players are at the same position, and their rookie draft picks weren't that good.

Mark Jackson has about as much coaching experience as you or I. He hasn't even coached an summer league team!!! His brother, Escalade (may he rest in peace), had more coaching experience than him. If you think he'll be a good coach, then you're in for a huge disappointment. Mark wasn't even a good analyst. Sure he entertained some people with his one liners (hand down, man down), but his analysis of players and game situations was laughable. Im sure the only reason he was hired is because he and Chris Mullin are former college (St. Johns) and NBA (Pacers) teammates and are very good friends. If Jackson turns out to be a good coach it would be nothing short of a miracle.

i agree with EVERYTHING except Van Gundy being a bad coach... like he says.. why take a player out if he has 4 fould in the 2n quarter... LET HIM PLAY till he fouls out AND post plays 96% of the time even if ur 7'6" guys turns it over 76% of the time...

Trust me bro, i watched all 82 GSW games, Keith Smart was terrible. He's a very nice guy, but he just isnt a good coach. His rotations were laughable, he didnt run the pick and roll with David Lee which is his greatest strenght, instead trying to make him post up all the time. He started Biedrins when it was clear our rookie Ekpe Udoh was out playing him. Not to mention he toyed with Curry's mintues while letting Monta do whatever. The one thing he did well was out of bounds plays, but everything else was awful. Mark Jackson can atleast be better than Smart, there is no way he can possibily be that bad. Jackson was even talking about how Smart wasnt coaching this team properly during one of our ESPN games. You saying it would be a miracle for him to be a good coach is a strech, you havent even saw him coach yet, give him a chance. There have been other coaches that came in with his same sitation and done well.
