It sounds like players can create their own team(crew) with their friends to join an association to compete for championship instead of searching other team(crew) randomly and get nothing other than get higher rank. (that's the real meaning of "Import your My Player - can you compete?" Think about it)
Thinking of your team(crew) is compete for championship of an association, not just compete for the rank. Its maybe just they don't name it as "my crew mode". Becoz it's an evolution of "my crew mode" so they changed the mode's name.
If we cannot use my player online why they set that attribute caps of my player? If we cannot use my player online why they said we can Import your My Player? What's the "an upcoming endeavor" means if we cannot use my player online for an association?
I don't think 2k will take out one of the consumer's favorite for no reasons(on the contrary, they should earn money on that, that's why DLC exists). Hack is not the reason. There are no hacks on PS3. And I think it's will be easily solved if my player is saved on 2k server.
Lets wait and see. The DLC will tell.

i think it is not as complicated as gather your crew is, but simply playing my player while your friends are playing in the same league too as you play with playing another player. The architecture, playing games are exactly same as the online association.
