will 2k only do a roster update if there is a season? so if there is no 2011-12 NBA season, then we will not have the real rookies? can't find a clear answer to this

No there wont be a updated roster . They can't put the rookies in until a new deal is put into place because there not signed to the teams yet .

Yeh that sucks, I wish they could put them in Free Agent Pool. Also how was the NFL able to put rookies in and not the NBA. The NFL knew the lock-out was coming and so did the NBA, not blaming anybody and at the end of the day, it's all good.

Madden released well after the lockout was over and (presumably) the on-disc roster cutoff date was after the new CBA had been signed as well.
