Played some 2k11 today...
and after the first 2 minutes something became glaringly obvious to me...2k12 sucks compared to 2k11. There, I said it. The gameplay in 2k11 is just so much tighter. You feel like you have full control of your player whereas in 2k12 they take soooo many little steps for the simplest of moves...it's just all so sloppy and slow. 2k11 may arguably be less realistic (though I don't think so), but overall it's so much better than 2k12. I needed to rant after 2 hours of the most frustrating 2k12 gameplay, so there it is.Tags: None -

Re: Played some 2k11 today...
A quick note btw, I just changed the difficulty from Allstar to Pro in 2k12 and it makes a lot of difference. Less BS, more legit basketball. I still think 2k11 is better overall, but 2k12 on Pro difficulty with adjusted sliders is also great.Comment

I do think 2k11 is better, but 2k12 has the potential to be beautiful so after this huge patch they got brewing hopefully my tune will change.Last edited by Slava Medvadenko; 11-14-2011, 08:23 PM.Comment

2) They learn the lessons of what worked in 2k11 and what worked in 2k12 and combine them to make 2k13 the greatest game ever.

Re: Played some 2k11 today...
I LOVE 2K11. After playing the 2K12 demo, I was totally unimpressed. I never even had the urge to purchase it. I'm still tweaking 2K11 Super Star sliders, LOVE my 20+ years worth of classic rosters and probably have no need for another NBA video game for a long time. I'm glad to see the interest in 2K11 as I believe it's the greatest NBA video game I've ever played.... With the right slider tweaks, it's just an awesome game.STEELERS INDIANS CELTICS

Re: Played some 2k11 today...
I just played a game of 2k11 to re-familiarize myself with it. What I liked about it compared to 2k12:
1) Movement is much more responsive. Ever worn those weights on your ankles when training for ball, then take them off? Thats what this felt like.
2) Passing animations are much faster. Pick and rolls felt great. Psychic D is here, but the passing itself is better. Also, what happened to those great wraparounds? I'd like to see those in 2k13 for +90 passers.
3) Very little rubberbanding. Its not super obvious like it is in 2k12.
4) Crossovers worked better. A little too well(you could juke people like hummingbird), but better than underpowering them.
5) Much less 'wtf' moments. Sliding at strange times, weird suctioning, etc.
6) What happened to Rim Hang dunks that we can control? In 2k12 we seem to only get them at random.
What I missed from 2k12:
1) Improved teammate AI in My Player. You don't have to score 40 or 50 to win a game like in 2k11. 2k12's team Ai isn't perfect, but in in 2k11 they were all space cadets.
2) I absolutely love that you can't dunk at will in 2k12. In all other past 2k's, on My Player or player lock, you could get 10+ dunks a game without trying too hard. Now it feels more like you did something when you do it.
3) Momentum shots feel much better. Shooting overall is more varied and fun.
4) Plays run better.
5) Blowout dribble on the break.
6) Animation is much better. The graphics themselves compare pretty well, but the animation is what makes it feel more 'new'. But if a long, pretty animation causes me to pass slower or move more sluggishly, give me herky-jerky anyday.
Overall, 2k11 is just more fun for me. I think the responsive movement, less annoying passing game(it still had issues), and less rubberbanding were the keys. Some stuff happens in 2k12 that makes me throw my hands up like "C'mon, really?". I believe the rubberbanding came about because 2k11 and back were really easy for people who've been playing for years, but they went a little overboard with it. But like I said earlier, there is a lot I like about 2k12 and I hope the patch gives it that new car smell.Comment

Re: Played some 2k11 today...
What I don't get about ALL the whinning is. . . if NBA 2K12 is so not worth-it or it's so bad as many continue to beat the same dead horse everyday then why keep playing it. So many people complain they are so through with it but their post tell a much different tale. I know it's hard living in a glass house when you throw stones yourselves but at least wait until after the game is patched.
I'm patient enough to do that since I am aware 2K is actually working on one.Where they DO that? ? ?Comment

Re: Played some 2k11 today...
Yeah sliders make things a tad bit better but overall I'd say 2K11 is better at this point. And no I don't accept it having 2 patches as an excuse, if that was the case then just label it NBA 2K12 beta and charge me half price for it or something. I hate that now people rely on patches when the released product has flaws. Patches are a nice luxury to have, but they shouldn't be the fallback excuse when a game ships w/ as many flaws as 2K12 had at release.
And to actually speak to the OP I played some 2K11 the other night and loved it. Put in 2K12 right after and had to turn it off. The slow passing, stupidity of your AI defenders, lack of control on D, sliding/skating, and overall CPU BS is just too much for me at this point. I've pretty much taken a respite from this game until the patch comes. Tried playing again today and it's the SOS.Comment

Amen

Lol Complaining does not equal whining. I like how people try to write off anything that's not worshiping 2k12 as whining. Good grief some people are so quick to defend ANYTHING and EVERYTHING about this game it's ridiculous. I'm ready for the patch, some things i doubt the patch can fix though. I'll have to wait and see.
This being said, while im no 2k fanboy like some people on here, 2k12 is definitely better than 2k11 patch or not. The post game in 2k12 runs circles around 2k11. Presentation is easily way better. The problem is 2k12 carries pretty much every flaw/problem that 2k11 had(such as the horrible passing and rebounding system) and adds a few new ones(every player apparently has a post game hakeem).Last edited by GHOSTFACE03; 11-15-2011, 04:01 AM.Comment

Re: Played some 2k11 today...
Had to be done - I went back to 2k11 last night, just to see if I was holding it in too high of a regard.
Got straight into an old save game - finals, game 2, 97 Bulls vs Rockets.
First thing I noticed and cringed at was the dribbling. Ouch. No walk the ball up animation and the return of hunchback! I hated this in 2k11, and still do now. On the flip side, the iso motion created more options for blowing past defenders, I could get into the paint with les frustration and finish without the entire squad closing in on me ala 2k12, the baseline seemed easier to navigate which left me grinning as I pulled off several wicked double clutch reverses with MJ, something I sorely miss in 2k12.
Adding to that, I loved seeing the old layup animations, there were some truly (imo) fantastic double pump/contact animations in 2k11, ones that look to have been completely removed from 2k12 in favour of full stick control (With this, I hardly ever pull off anything that looks remotely realistic as some of the canned layup animations from 2k11) it was a joy to watch MJ get bumped and toss up a highlight prayer layup for the and 1.
Shooting wasn't as fun. There just felt like there was no weight to the players, the post game felt like I was playing an old nintendo bball game with only a small number of options, 2k12 destroys 2k11 in this department.
Passing in 2k11 had its flaws, but hell I really whipped some fast balls around the perimeter looking for the open man - felt alot more responsive, but with patience, I have learned to pass better in 2k12, despite the laggy, soemtimes floaty deliveries.
Classic arena sounds actually played!!!! Could hear the Bulls organ music when playing the Chicago Stadium and United Centre, if 2k12 could sort this out, I would be forever sold!!
Presentation wise is a no brainer, 2k12 is far superior, not much more to be said on that matter.
One last thing.....if you're gonna have the GOAT in the game, don't take away his signature moves - please put back in his one handed palm pump fake!
Overall, I enjoyed going back to 2k11, having several areas that I missed greatly. That said, 2k12 is by far the better game, even with its many flaws. The fluidity and sheer number of moves at your disposal makes going back to 2k11 like playing Bird VS Jordan on the NES.-----------------------------------------
