What does "Close" refer to as a shot location?

I remember playing a shooting drill mini-game either last year or the year before, and all the locations on the court were marked "Close," "Mid-Range" and "3PT."

I'm not sure, but I think "Close" should be in the paint but not right at the basket, correct? I've tried to find the shooting drill again to confirm, but I couldn't.

about 3-12 feet from the basket is close range, you would be correct also about the shooting drill. Anything under basket is inside, around the painted area is close, medium is anything outside the free throw line and in between the 3 point line

Does the entire painted area count as inside? I thought it was more like the restricted area would count as inside, then in the paint, but outside of the restricted area is close.

doesn't the area directly under the basket have a different designation than the area around the basket? inside vs close like someone said?

            That would be correct.

            the 66.3% area is inside
            the 44.9% area is close
the 47.3% area is medium or mid range
the 22.2% area is 3 point range (of course)
