I found this a great way to increase the replay value of a 2k game. Select a young talent. You trade away all your other players for expirings, then cut them. Promote players in the D-League and sign them for 5 years 1.75mil front loaded contracts. Your young player should average around 20+ points and win ROY with a possible NBA team. From there, you build your team around that guy. Unrealistic, but very fun.

Trade away big contracts for 1 year contracts, make sure theres no player option.
