Online Quitters

First off, I can understand that playing a sports video game, especially one like 2K where the realism and the rush that goes through someone when playing becomes a part of you, I have to say if you are playing a game and you are into it, you are caught up in the moment, as if you are right there, why get up and quit? I am sure that we have played an online game at one point or another where things were not going our way, players were not hitting their shots and you can't find any momentum and the score is far out of reach by now, but whats the point in quitting? What exactly is someone proving when they quit? If things aren't going your way and you are just having a bad game your going to basically insult the person you are playing by just tossing the controller down and hitting quit and feeling a sense of control? The other night I was playing a guy online. He chose the Heat and I of course was my Lakers (only team I EVER play with, I dont care if the person I'm playing chooses them to) and midway through the second quarter he was up 42-27 and he paused the game for a minute and kept highlighting resume/quit, resume/quit. I figured he thought that since I was down by 15 that I would just up and quit and go on about my business. Honestly, him doing that made me think he wants me to quit because he is probably playing the game of his life right now and is shocked that HE is up by 15. Well despite being down by 15, I had started getting a feel for how he was playing and I just had to make a few adjustments and I figured if I can get the score to be reasonable by the fourth quarter, I'll give myself a shot to maybe pull it out. Well I was down 42-34 at the half and 2nd half....DIFFERENT STORY. Not only was he no longer able to get to the hole, he was unable to get past the three point line. I kept switching my defenses from man-to-man to 1-3-1 zone depending on if I scored or not. After just 2 minutes into the third quarter a 42-34 deficit had turned into a 46-42 lead thanks in large part to the Black Mamba and Andrew Bynum. The end result was Lakers 79, Heat 64. Midway through the fourth quarter I couldn't help myself after Kobe drove the lane and posterized LeBooBoo that I paused the game and highlighted resume/quit, resume/quit? I give the guy a lot of props, he didn't quit, I was expecting him to any point in the fourth quarter, but that leads to me what my complaint is about. I just finished my third online game tonight and all three games, the opponent QUIT!!!! I haven't been able to get a full game in since this morning. The first guy picked the Thunder, he quit in the 2nd quarter, I was up 36-27. The second guy picked the Heat and quit again miday through the 2nd quarter, I was up 26-10. The third guy picked the Bulls and I was up by as many as 14 through three quarters and he made a little run going into the fourth I was up 46-40. He quit with 4 minutes left in the game, I was up 58-44. My thing is, I'm not saying that nobody has never quit a game. I admit, I have quit a few games (a majority because I couldn't stand the internet connection and the choppy gameplay), but other then that I'm not going to disrespect someone and waste their time and mine just because I'm losing a online game that realistically win or lose am I getting a prize afterwards? No, I'm not so why not just suck it up, give the other guy his due respect as a fellow gamer and who knows you might end up learning something about the game that you didn't know. I know that playing online has got so many issues, I'm not saying its the perfect thing, but I mean come on, if you are going to get up and quit midway through a game just simply because you are not winning, then its time to grow up. I played maybe 5 games online with 2K11 last year, I didn't get into, but then this year while I was working on the Community Edit Roster while the other guys had the roster and working on it, I just started to give online a try and I got hooked on it. I've played 227 games and I've had my butt handed to me, and I've also made people look stupid. Now don't get me wrong, when I am playing my Association, I'm all about Sim, I want Sim, but online, I'll play however you want to play. I don't sit there and pause the game and go switch up coaching sliders and all that crap. All I do is give the ball to #24 and dare the guy to stop me. I don't consider it to be cheesing when I got Kobe scoring 45, 50, 55, 60 points against someone. Bottom line to me is you can't stop him, so until you do I'm riding him. But I what I wanted to hear from you guys about is how you feel about people who quit midway through a game or like with a minute to go in the fourth quarter (especially if its a close game and they get up and quit caused they missed the shot to tie or take the lead). I just want to hear and see if there are others here like me who find it simply childish and pointless that a person you are playing that is half away around the world or closer needs to feel a sense of control by quitting just because you are on your game and he isnt.

Re: Online Quitters

I used to hate quitters, now I find them far too funny. You can just imagine them sitting behind their TV almost pained with rage at the fact their cheesing isn't working, so they quit or pull the plug so I send them a message afterwards thanking them for giving me the easy win.

I hate superstar abusers more than quiters, guys who refuse to let anyone else other than Kobe/Durant or Lerbon have the ball. They are the guys who piss me off the most, next to zone campers and turbo road runners.

Re: Online Quitters

I don't mind a quit as long as it's not done in such a way to rob someone of an earned victory. I've quit games where I just didn't feel like dealing with someone being overly effective w/[their one-trick silly tactic]. But I'll just quit and give them the win, even if I'm winning at the time. I don't mind people that quit out last minute that much as long as they give up the win. Personally if I've played a game to the 4th quarter and it doesn't look like I'll win, I'll just hang in and play the game to completion as a sign of sportsmanship.

I do hate those that disconnect in such a way as to not give someone their earned win. I've only come across it 2-3 times in 60+games so it hasn't been too frustrating, but it's there

2k online is like driving, it brings out the worst in people.

The quitting is lame, but the pausing thing is the worst. I can't stand people who pause a lot trying to send some message.

True. I feel it also brings out the worst expectations as well. In the few times I played online, if someone paused, I assumed they were trying to psych me out (instead of, say, them pausing because they had to). If they quit, I assumed they hated me. And if they did not play the game as realistically as I wanted, I assumed they only had the evilest of intentions.

Either way, not a fun experience.
