The Seventh Ring: Kobe's quest for basketball supremacy

Hey Everyone, I'm newer to the forums so I'm just being a little post happy.

Anyway, whenever I pick up a sports game the first thing I'll do is play an association with my favorite team or players team. After multiple associations going to waste, I decided to just be Kobe. I feel like this way I can go after his 6th and 7th ring (more than MJ). After Kobe retires I'll have to rebuild off of Bynum.

I'm using slightly tweaked 2k rosters, the latest download, and chilliads draft classes, that I fix up a little bit for my liking, especially player appearances.

So really I'm just trying to get a conversation going. What kind of association are you doing?

Re: The Seventh Ring: Kobe's quest for basketball supremacy

Just a warning bro, lots of users around here play a lot of online games in 2k12. We all hate cheese and Kobe is a pretty sore subject with a lot of people that browse around here because people abuse him online. But if you want to see Kobe get more rings than Michael...video games are your only option. It isn't happening in real life.

As for my association, I've got several. I've got two single-team associations going, but I haven't played games in either for a long time. The first one is all current teams with the Indiana Pacers being my user team. I still play games with other teams when the Pacers have an off-day, because I like to play with several different teams like the Hawks, Knicks, Celtics, Thunder, Heat, Mavericks, Spurs, and T-Wolves.

I have another single-team going with the 1996 Bulls. This league has a small collection of the best classic teams and the best current teams. I used to play it quite a bit because I love leading the league in rebounds and Dennis Rodman was my grandma's favorite player when I was a kid (no joke). He's a lot of fun to get boards with in this game. I was a monster of a Bulls fan as a kid being from a town just outside of Chicago. I think I may have gotten my fill of Jordan for now in 2k11, though. I haven't played this one in a long long time though because....

My favorite association is my classics league. I replaced all the teams with the unlocked classic teams. There are about 5 different Bulls teams and another handful of Lakers team. It gets a little confusing but there are just enough classic teams to fill the league. I absolutely love this association and I play multiple games a day in this one (12min quarters in all my associations). I basically play with every team that isn't the Bulls. I don't really play with the super old teams that much (like the '71 Knicks, Wilt's Lakers, Bill's Celtics, Kareem's Bucks, etc). There are a few teams I just sim beyond (takes plenty long enough to get through one day as is) but I play with pretty much every team that is from 1985 and later. It is REALLY fun to perform with the greats and try to keep the league leaders chuck full of Hall of Famers and their fortes. I highly recommend any fan of yesterday's NBA to give it a try sometime. I just love this league and I'll keep playing 2k12 if 2k13 doesn't have the classics again. Pure joy.

See now that actually sounds fun. You don't even understand how much time ive wasted in finding something to do in this game. I finally just decided to do an association with Kobe, because he's awesome (i never play online so get over it.) I don't even have a my player that I've kept because I always screw something up. With one, I accidentally got traded to the bulls, and another I realized my field goal % was a 38. So I just decided to make an athletic point guard. Russel Westbrook-esque. He's actually pretty fun. I kinda like to keep things more realistic though, that's why I don't do those classic ones. Though I robably would have fun.

Just because someone chooses Kobe as their player lock option doesn't mean they'll cheese. It just means they're smart and picked the best player on the team to control. It's easy to call someone a cheeser when they play REALISTICALLY with Kobe. (like he DOESN'T shoot the ball 30 times a game?) haha. I see what you're saying though, same goes with Lebron, Durant, etc. Pretty much anyone who has a good overall game...

You guys seem to be misinterpreting why I bring up the Kobe thing.

          You are looking for conversation.

          No one is posting.

I'm offering a suggestion as to why that is.

If you really want me to "get over it" I easily can.

It won't end in me striking up a deep conversation with you about you playing with Kobe and Kobe only.

          See where this is going?

Next time you are asking to strike up a conversation, I'd recommend not being rude to the first person who obliges.

          Have fun.

I don't mind the sentiment. I always enjoy a good gif. But really...what is so absurd about saying Kobe isn't going to get 2 more rings in real life? After the way he played this year and the rate at which is body is quickly deteriorating, I certainly don't see it happening. The team itself has no chemistry and there's a lot of speculation that the team is going to be dismantled soon. Unless I'm misunderstanding what you are trying to say with that gif...I just don't see it happening and I'd love to hear your argument why you think it will?

He doesn't have Phil anymore and, so far, he really hasn't proved that he can do anything without him. Making the playoffs isn't really impressive in this league. Eight teams from each conference get an invite. They were much more of a drama-circus than a team this year. When you combine that with the fact that LeBron is playing much better this year and there are some really great young teams rising up right now like the Thunder and Bulls; I really don't see how you can possibly say that Kobe is going to win two more rings. Seriously, let's hear your argument against that.

So really man, instead of semi-trolling with macros and no comments....why don't you act like an adult and give us all a reason why you think Kobe is going to win some more championships?

@StraightBaylien - I find it rude to tell someone to "get over it", especially when they are, at that time, the only one responding to your thread and you want to encourage conversation. Would you say that to your boss? Probably not...because it's not exactly polite, imo.

Haha. Well you know I'm a Cubs fan, so I know a thing or two about having to use video games to see a team win a Championship.

I don't. The gif was for the lol 's I'm a diehard Lakers fan. With the rise of OKC and the Heat, Lakers will need a BIG roster change to compete for a title again. It rhymes with B-Dill and Mwight Soward.

I believe that was what my reaction was supposed to look like, not yours. And everyone hear acts like I'm hating on mj. Even if Kobe did get 2 more rings, mj is still the best player to ever play the game. Its just a video a game.

LOL @ B-Will and Mwight Soward. Ok fair enough. Like I said, I always enjoy a good gif but I just couldn't understand what was so outrageous about my statement. Thanks for clarifying for me and putting my mind at ease.

Sigh. No one was being attacked man. I think you need to calm down. I just asked him/her to explain the post.

Besides, I admitted that I might be misunderstanding the gif....and I even admitted that I always appreciate a good gif. Furthermore you seem to have completely ignored the further developments of those posts. Really, I think you need to not worry about others and just do you. What's the saying? "I'll do me...you do you." Something like that. Really though. I'll post whatever I choose and, as long as I'm within the rules, there's not a thing you can do about it. A mod in another thread is making that sadly clear to me. I also expect people from 2ksports to at least be able to explain themselves if they are just going to post a gif and no comment. He/She didn't seem to have too much of a problem with it, and I appreciated his/her willingness to explain himself or herself.

@LD2k - To you, I apologize if you were offended. It wasn't at all my intention. If you think I was insulting you, then I think I've fallen victim to "text-tone misinterpretation". I really wasn't upset at all. I appreciate you for explaining yourself. Thanks.
